Supra engine swap question

I was just reading Grannys speedshop (http://www.grannysspeedshop.com) regarding a Chevy LT1 V8 engine swap into the FD. Does anyone know if a Toyota 2JZGTE (Supra TT) engine has ever been successfully swapped into an FD? I just have these visions of 800rwhp in an FD...

No "Supras suck" type flames please...I love my rx7, but for daily driving the fuel consumption is atrocious. I also have alot of experience dealing with pistion engines and would love to throw one in there.

Sorry,

The 2JZ is too long, and will get worse mileage than the 13Btt. Its an in-line 6, and considerably longer than most V8s.

That motor is the same (minus TT) that my old Lexus SC had.

At best I got 18MPG when I kept my foot out of it, the 2JZ TT only factory specs at 16 MPG.

2JZ-GTE transplant

If you are interested in persuing this topic further please visit the following link for hybrid talk concerning 2nd/3rd gen RX-7's.

http://www.v8rx7.com click on the messageboard link and register

BTW- there is a 2nd gen RX-7 in FL running the Supra TT setup you are talking about and it has clicked off some 10.10@130+mph passes letting of the throttle. Single turbo car with custom intercooler/downpipe/etc. 9 second car for sure with full cage and narrowed solid 9" rear end.

I don't imagine the 3rd gen engine bay being any shorter than a 2nd gen.... and I don't know what mods are involved with the swap (firewall/radiator support) so please don't ask me. But it has been done and that would be a green light for me to start the project at least. Not only are they long.... but they are tall.

As far as gas mileage.... if you are planning on putting in a SupraTT engine as an option you aren't really concerned about mileage are you? 800rwhp and good mileage aren't used in the same sentence..... ever.

You may want to look at doing an LT1/T-56 with turbo setup as another option. 1000rwhp has been done many times with a prepped stock block (forged internals/good heads). It will be much cheaper than doing the Supra swap IMO.

Please PM me with your email address.

Thanks for the advice...I just sold off my engine/turbos/transmission/ic/etc for about $7k, which gives me a few options. I'm looking at either the LT1 or the LS1 - I've been told the LS1 is too tall, and besides no one has any wiring information regarding electronics. Bill Hagan said he spent close to 100 hours figuring out the LT1 wiring, so I don't want to go through that...besides, it means he has all the wiring info I can steal from him (I hope!).

So, it's probably gonna be an LT1/T56 for me.

My email is amirhaleem@hotmail.com. Thanks again!
