Engine gaskets

I want to know what engine gaskets are made of. i was talking to a guy that says that you can buy a product called velmoid or somthing like that. and that is what the gasket material is called. i was thinking about makeing my own gaskets for my 13b rebuild but don't know if i can

i may be wrong, but i think the gasket materials vary due to application. (some need to be extremely high heat, other oil proof, others gas proof, etc., etc.) i'm not saying it's impossoble to make your own gaskets to build an engine, but i'd bet you will need more than just one material.
