dead tacho in my fc turbo... help
I think this is a common problem with the fc3s. My tachometer will work only for a few seconds after I start the car. Then it goes dead.
What areas should I look into. Any suggestions...
Thanks,

OK,
I'll double check the trailing ignition wires and make sure they are not faulty.
Did you ever have this problem ? What aspect of the trailing ignition do you think is in question ?
Thanks.

The stock tach in the instrument cluster runs it's input signal from the trailing coil ignitor.
If there is a problem with the tach, it's either the trailing coil ignitor or the wiring in between (or the tach itself).

OK,
I solved the problem. The FC3S I have is a 1986 GTU model. The trailing coils are the original, and the bolts that hold it and ground it to the body are coroded and moldy. All it took was to dismount the whole trailing coil and ignitor, sand the grounding points to the body to re-establish 100% negaive ground and remount the assembly.
That's it. Now my tachometer works normal !!
I posted this in hopes that it may help someone else in the future.
thank you
