Hello all, purchased an fc vert na with a 13b. Has crank no start issue. It's an 88. So far has fuel and spark that I have checked. Anything else I should look for aside from air and compression? From what I was told the rear rotor was loosing compression as t was smoking on cold start but hasn't turned it on in about 6 months. Thanks

 

Have you tried any methods of deflooding the motor? When these motors get tired, they get harder and harder to start. You can pull the EGI fuse and dry crank several times. Depending on if/how badly it's flooded that still may not be enough.

 

Yeah we did we set the petal all the way down and cranked and even pulled out the trailing and leading spark plugs to clear all of the gas. Sorry I should have mentioned I forgot that part. But yeah we can't get it to crank over we even tried push starting it

 

If it doesn't start when push starting that would make one think the compression is a bit awful. You could always try using a tad of starter fluid (1 to 2 seconds at most). And pressing down on the throttle to deflood is only for an S5 (89-91) and not the S4 (86-88).

 

Unless he's using an Rtek. Given the lack of information it's anyone's guess.

Have you done a compression test? I know you were told the compression was questionable, but you may want to quantify that.

 

well I haven't acquired the car yet I'm trying to see if we can get it to move before my last resort of towing it. I didn't try the starter fluid because it's getting fuel but I'll try it anyways. Oh okay good to know, guess I'll remove the fuse to clear it like he stated earlier

 

Not that I'm aware of. Car is stock just minor bolt ons (short shifter, exhaust, aluminum radiator, t2 trans and final drive, t2 front brake calipers). No I haven't, I'm going to get to it next weekend when I head over on my days off but I have a good feeling that the compression numbers aren't going to look good. Only reason I didn't get to it today was because I got there kinda late and I was assuming the car would be running but guess that's my fault.

 

How do you know the engine is getting fuel. Fuel might be coming from the feed hose after the fuel filter, but the primary injectors might be clogged. If it starts up briefly with the use of starter fluid then the primary injectors could be suspect.

 

You need to clear the engine of any excess fuel,and that means to remove the plugs.
Pull the EGI fuse out(engine bay fuse block)..roll over the engine with plugs OUT for 30 seconds.
now squirt in a bit of oil(like a tablespoon) in the spark plug holes.
Roll the engine over again for 10 seconds.
Put in a Set of CLEAN or NEW plugs,Put the EGI Fuse back in and try to start it.

IF the engine is just flooded and was in good operating condition it should want to or will start up.

 

Just wanted to update this post; I sprayed starter fluid and it runs. I know the problem is fuel related. Im not getting fuel to the fuel rail. Tested injectors and injectors tested at 12 ohms. The fuel filter was clogged and I replaced that. Checked the operation of the fuel pump and it isn't pumping fuel. I replaced the fuel pump and still couldn't get it to start. Starting to think either the lines are clogged or there is a wiring issue with the fuel pump.
