rear disk brakes and + style rims

I've literally got a small problem. My 1980 RX7 has rear disk brakes and a clutch type LSD. Don't ask me how he got the stuff but the Mazda dealer who first owned the car installed that stuff in 1980 and it's not the typical GSL option differential. Anyways the brakes are the same size.
My problem now is that the car stands on some rare Atiwe 14 inch rims which in my opinion are a bit ugly. I'd like to get the factory 13 inch + style rims for it but I'm worried I might get some fitment issues because of the rear brakes. The rims would cost about 200€ and there's only one set for sale at the moment in Germany which I know of so it's not really an option to just buy them and see if they fit. I heard some 13 inch rims fit and others don't.

So did anybody ever try to fit those 13 inch + style rims over rear disk brakes?

check the bolt pattern. they might have gsl-se rear discs and the pattern would be 4x114.3 not 4x110. can't run a stock 13, it requires 14's or something deep dish i'd imagine. then again youre ahead of the game with that larger pattern anyways. the aftermarket wheel world is yours.

The bolt pattern definitely is 4x110 so the brakes should be the smaller GSL brakes.

Thanks. Good to hear that. Next question would be: Will 205/60 tires fit on those rims? I'm asking because the car has about 265bhp and I don't think the original 185/70 tires would add to the safety of the car.

Alright - a comment like that ("... car has about 265 bhp") needs some explanation! Let's hear about it.

Also, 205/60 tires will be a stretch on 5.5" width, 13" wheels, but it's been done successfully.

It's all inside this thread: https://www.rx7club.com/build-thread...-road-1088448/

I guess I'll try that then. Thanks for the answers.

205 60 13 will work fine on the stock rim. And you should have some to choose from over there. We in the States are not so fortunate.

Based on the modifications on your car, you very well could have 4x114 wheels. Need to check your bolt pattern.

I could take some Toyo Proxes R888. Maybe you can't choose between so many tires but at least you can get spare parts for those old RX7s. In Germany nearly nothing exists anymore for SA/FB models and there are only about 70 of them in a driveable condition around in the whole country.

I wish I could help you out with a set of + wheels, I've got about 20 of them out back.

Plus wheels are give aways over here in the states!

Hehe unfortunately I think the postage would cost more than the rims are worth.

Ok new problem now: Look what I found when I removed a rear wheel!

That's not how GSL brakes should look like. The bolt pattern definitely is 110 but (at least that's what I believe and how it looks like by the opened up bolt holes of the disks ) somebody took GSL-SE brakes and fitted them to a GSL-axle. Normally this would be an amazing find but now I#m not sure if any 13 inch wheels would fit over the 257mm diameter disks.
By the way I didn't find + style wheels yet but I think I found something better. A set of old 13 inch Enkei Apache V wheels. They would need some work but they would look amazing... if they fit.

Definitely -SE rear brake rotors. Also, the -SE vented rear rotors are larger in diameter than the non-SE solid rotors on the 12a cars, which would make attachment of GSL brake calipers somewhat difficult. It might also explain how you have an LSD in that car if the owner just swapped an -SE rear axle in entirety.

Measure the bolt distance across any 2 and report back. I'm almost betting that's 4x114.3 and you have a GSL-SE rear axle on that car.

I've allready measured it. It's definitely 4x110. Even my rims say so and I have a bill for the rear axle which is from 1982. GSL-SE cars weren't available back then and I can see the holes in the brake rotors were extended into the direction of the hubs.
The calipers and the rotors are from a GSL-SE but that's about all.

Why not just go with 4x114 then? Looks like you have most of the parts.

I only have the rear brakes of a GSL-SE. The front hubs are still the original 4x110 ones and the rear axle is a 4x110 GSL axle, too.

Better to stick with 4x110 then, as long as you want all of your wheels to match. On that note, the rear brake clearance can only be determined by mounting the "+" wheels and measuring or looking through the wheel spokes to ascertain clearance. I'm betting they'd fit just fine, but would want to see pictures to prove it,
