I'm looking at getting a compression tester and found quite a few different options.
Is there any real performance difference between different companies or is it just looking for features you want like 1 rotor vs both rotors at the same time?
I bought the build your own from AUS as a budget option. I have it setup to either be battery powered or a DC brick. It is nice to have something portable to take to rotary meets if you go. I do have some issues with the readout not working correctly all the time. I would say that customer support is available and friendly. Although a bit slow with a response, I was still happy to get a reply.
If I had the money, I would have bought something that does all the math for you and does both rotors at once. I am not complaining though, It gets the job done.
I modded it with a detachable sensor lead using an XLR cable, panel mount connector and cable end. This picture is minus the XLR extension cable. I also added the external power jack.
It sequentially provides its readings in all of the units called out in Mazda's FSM (psi, KPa, Kg/cm^2), and it provides readings compensated for altitude (it has internal barometric pressure sensor) AND normalized to 250 RPMs per the Mazda FSM test procedure. It also provides the raw compression data at the actual RPMs measured during testing. Very high quality construction & durable design, this thing isn't built just for DIY hobbyists - lots of professional rotary shops buy & use them too. Super easy to use too, I use mine every time I change my spark plugs to keep tabs on my FD & FC's compression over time. Not sure what the current pricing is, but I paid less than $250 for mine IIRC.
