Converting to Other Types of Fuel For Gas Mileage
Guys have you heard of people converting rotaries to use other types of gas?
My friend in Europe says he wants to do the conversion to his RX-8 to get better gas mileage.
What does this conversion require?

Deep pockets. Depends on what type of fuel you want to run, but no matter what fuel you run, you would have to do a complete stand alone computer, which usually sets you back at least a grand plus
Unless you got money to blow, usually changing to a different type of fuel isn't worth the cost unless there is a mass produced kit made for an engine

Fuel economy won't change if you change the fuel. All fuels have more or less the same energy per pound, the only difference is the delivery method.
We do CNG conversions at work, the stock PCM is retained and it just switches to a different set of injectors. It's pretty slick and there are a lot of cost-saving benefits but fuel economy is not one of them. And I don't think there would be enough room in an RX-8 for the 3600psi fuel tank.
