Clutch Installation ?s

My '85 SE clutch is leaking inside the car and occassionally will stick to the floor but only when in 1st and when at a stop with the clutch fully depressed to the floor which is not very often as I stay off the clutch when stopped. Would you buy the dealers clutch master cylinder at $95 my cost (including a 20% sports car club discount already included) or one in the Victoria British catalog for $50 plus $10 for shipping? Would there be much difference in Mazda's parts and aftermarket? If there is much difference I would probably pay the $35 difference and buy the higher quality part. Also, the Factory Manual is pretty clear on the replacement procedure but it is difficult to see the bolt on the clutch fluid upright container. How do you get to that bolt? Does the container just lift off the master cylinder housing? Thanks.

Pick one up from advance auto parts/discount auto parts. Should be around the same that V.B. is asking.

See if you can buy a Mazda rebuild kit. It's much cheaper, and should do the job. Use some really high grade sandpaper (600 grit or higher) to smooth out the cylinder.

The master cylinder rebuild kit for the FD is only $22 at Autozone and I am sure it isnt that much work to do. I cant imagine the 85 would be more than that. I would just rebuild it. You can do the slave cylinder too, took me about 30 minutes and cost $8 at AutoZone for the FD. I will never buy any new hydraulic piston type parts again, only the rebuild kits. It is so incredibly easy to rebuild these parts, 90% of the work is just removing the part which you need to do when replacing it anyways.
