Carbon Cleaning Agents...Safe?

Hey there everyone. I'm aware of the carbon build ups that rotary engines have and I was wondering. Is it safe to use those wacky liquid carbon cleaners you stick in your gas tank? Not all the time of course, just a 1 time use type thing. If so, which ones are safe or have you guys had good luck with?
