NY bad winding sound like a supercharger

Need help with my clean 87 s4 NA gxl. Its making a sound, like supercharger, winding when idling and around 4-6k rpm. When i push the clutch in, it goes away, im thinking its either the old clutch with, 80k miles on it, or the transmission. idk is it normal for a clutch to make that sound when they ware out? Because i do need a new clutch.
thanks for the help

basically like the winding sound some alternators make when they go bad. I hope its not the engine like the side rotor housing.

well guess what. It was leaking tranny fluid bad for a few days, from the broken rear main seal between the drive shaft and tranny. so its at the shop now getting that replaced. and if it still makes that sound after i will have to replace the clutch. Also is there a input shaft shaft bearing?

the clutch components are, pilot bearing-, flywheel-, clutch disc-, clutch pressure plate-, throw out bearing-, clutch release fork-, and input shaft bearing. anything else like bushings?

The input shaft bearing Is a transmission component... most likely is throw out bearing start with a full clutch kit (clutch, throw out bearing, pressure plate and pilot bearing) before you worry about input shaft bearing you can go awhile with one of those screaming....
