Sounds like you just have a narrow band gauge that reads the stock O2 sensor. Pretty much useless especially on a rotary as it will always read rich. You need what's called a "wide band" oxygen sensor if you want to get any readings that are meaningful.

finally got ahold of the company that i got the gauge from...they said a stock o2 sensor will and i told them that when i turn on the car the gauge is buried on the rich side...they told me to check the volts or ur just runnin rich....talked to rx7.com and said standard voltage on a o2 sensor should be 0 to 1 volt...normally around
.08 volts....but i thought u would need a wideband o2 sensor?

Stock O2 sensors (a narrow band) pretty much only tells you whether you are richer or leaner than stoich which is 14.7 AFR's. Leaner and it reads really low volts like .08 sounds reasonable. Richer than that it will go high to almost 1 volt and read rich. Stoich is supposed to be an ideal AFR for piston engines for emissions purposes which is much leaner than a rotary runs. So you will almost always read rich. Narrow band gauges on rotary engines are not so useful.

Look for something like the Innovate kit
http://www.innovatemotorsports.com/products/kits.php

or the NGK
http://www.ngksparkplugs.com//produc...000&country=US

There are lots of threads regarding wide band sensors and controllers if you do a search.

You will also need a controller for the wideband sensor the sensor alone won't work with your gage. If you go with Innovate Motorsports the LC-1 Lamda Cable P/N:3769 should work with your gage it's programable and comes with the sensor $199. The sensor should be mounted farther down the exhaust stream though it can overheat. The stock position can be too hot.

Ok. Hold on.

The stock O2 sensor isn't useful for monitoring your A/F ratios and should have nothing to do with a proper Air Fuel Ratio gauge.

You are going to leave the stock O2 sensor alone and install a completely separate Wideband O2 Monitor kit like the NGK A/Fx.
