93 RX7: Ignition will not turn off
93 RX7: Ignition will not turn off
Replaced the ignition switch but the car does not always shut down with the ignition turned off (motor runs continuously with the key in the off position).
When I dump the clutch to kill it, the fan motors remain running. In fact, I think they run continuously no matter the temperature.
On occasion, the engine will turn off with the key, but the fans do not.
If this is related, the battery always vents acid as if overcharging.
The ignition switch has been replaced.
Is there any relay that might be faulting in the ignition system?

As a preface, I know nothing of 3rd gen. RX-7's in specific, just general stuff that I've learned from other cars. This info may or may not be related to your car because of this.
....That's a pretty complex problem. Take it to a shop and see if it's giving any codes on the computer (check-engine light should be on). If it isn't (CEL, or no codes), then I'd check the main relay. I couldn't tell you where it is, but that's the most likely cause of your run-on. They usually don't get stuck "on" they get stuck "off," though. It's between this and having a short somewhere.
Usually, when the fans stay on all the time (even when initially starting), it either means you've got bad fan relay(s), a bad ECM, a bad coolant temp sensor, or your AC system may be on. But you say that even after the car turns off (when it actually does turn off) that the fans stay on.. I'd say it's either bad wiring or bad relays (ECU send a signal to the relays; car turns off, no signal, no fans).
With the overflowing battery, this sounds like the beginnings of a nightmare electrical problem. Have your alternator checked to make sure the regulator is working on it (is the voltage gague pegged all the way up?). If in doubt (or if you don't feel like testing a few hundred wires), take it to a shop that specializes in RX-7's or one that specializes in automotive electrical.
