wont turn OFF

So i have a t2 rx7 its a 87 body with a 91 motor.
Few mods

Big thing is car starts awesome and runs great BUt

It wont turn off i turn the key and nothing happens i have to pull the EGT fuse (the fuel one i think thats what its called)
then disconnect the battery

Has anyone had this problem?

What was the fix?
Do i need to buy a new tumbler and locks ect.?

Use a test light to figure out why the coils are still getting power after the key is turned off. Something in the wiring probably went bad and someone just bypassed the ignition switch.

Your problem is caused sometimes by someone installing the alternator small wires incorrectly and then the alt backfeeds the ignition system which is what keeps it running.

IF you have not messed with the alt lately........then that is not the problem.

Another thing that can cause the same backfeeding problem is someone connecting an electrical connector to another that it was not meant to mate with and that causing the backfeeding. Usually that's a connector around the clutch pedal area or ignition leads. But if you have not been removing and reconnecting connectors lately........then that's not the problem.

If the ignition switch requires you to jiggle the key to turn the car off then chances are your ignition is the cause.

the usual cause of run on is a badly wired up thermo fan backfeeding as it spins down

use a relay

We need some clues. Next time it won't turn off do one of two things. One would be pull the ENGINE fuse in the interior and tell us if that caused the engine to die or not.

Barring that.............next time it keeps running with the key OFF...........find the igniton switch electrical leads that are located about a foot forward of the ignition switch. Find the two wire plug that has a pure black wire and a black/white wire. Pull that connector apart. Did the car die or not when you did that????? IF it kept runing........ain't a bad ignitoin switch, its something miswires backfeeding the ignitoin system. Like some item on the batt bus feeding the IG1 bus thru a miswire..somewhere.

You have to help us so we can help .............you.

EDIT: In fact disconnecting that two wire plug I just mentioned is the firs thing I'd do and I'd do it now instead of later. Takes but minutes to do if the air vent duct is removed in that area of the car. Just two screws and that small duct can be removed to access the ignition switch electrical plugs.
