Question 88 fc3c 1/4 tank empty and 3/4 tank full

I need help figuring out why I cant fill the tank up to the full line and yes the 1/4 line is empty almost left me stranded yesterday.

I have just recently purchased this vehicle and never had this problem with any of my 91 fc3c .

The limit of only been able to drive the vehicle with half a tank is no fun as I am limited to where and how far I can go. Constantly stopping at the gas station is no fun either.

Your sending unit could be giving you false readings.
That tank should hold 16 gallons so IF you can run it until it dies then fill up and note the amount of gas and the pump says it filled the car with 15/16 gallons then you know your sender is bad.

You can always check the sender by taking it out of the tank. There is an access plate on the rear floor of the hatch you can get to the top of the tank.
The float is on a rod and it could just be bent.

I have the convertible I will take out the spare see if I can gain access but another question if that is the problem would that explain the problem that it only fills up to 5.055 gallons and then cuts off as well??

If you can only get 5 gallons into it,then I have to wonder if you have 10 left.

Then again there is a vent that can be plugged preventing the tank from fully filling up.

ones it reaches the 1/4 line it starts to run out and it left me stranded yesterday
and when I fill it it stops right at the 3/4 line

I heard from a fellow rx7 owner he only has the stop at 3/4 as well but when his riches E than it actually is empty

You need to establish if it is a faulty sender in the tank or something holding the float from moving in the tank.
Also If indeed the tank is full when you have that 3/4 reading. It may read 3/4 but actually be full. The readings could be bad and give you inaccurate levels but still have fuel in the tank,.But you do not know that until you crack it open.

Right now you are just guessing as well as I am.
You know you problem is at the tank so you will have to bite the bullet and open it up.

I'm "right beside ya Buddy"...
I had a Rust sandwich this morning taking the tank out from under my car.....Mmmm....Parts cleaner and crud..yummy!
Tank is fine but the pump needs to be switched out and I can't get those 8 screws out!

I am so glad I pull out the tank before I scrap a car.. so I have Giant 16 gallon gas "bombs" at the back of my garage for situations like this!
