88 10th AE No Oil Pressure.

Hi guys my names jesse.

I've been working on rx-7s for quite some time and know my way around them pretty well but this problem has me completely lost.

I have a 88 10th AE thats been a bit modified but nothing extreme. The car was running perfectly fine until one day while sitting in traffic my oil pressure pinned itself at 0 and my idle started fluctuating.

Did a poor mans compression test the compression doesnt seem too bad it seems all apex seals are in place so i proceeded to replace the omp (I know it wouldnt cause any affect on pressure with the little bit it squirts over time i just had a spare one lying around i cleaned up) turbo oil return line, oil filter, oil, etc.

I also checked the pressure sending unit wire cleaned the connector and it looks pretty shiny to me.

Checked everywhere there does not seem to be any leaks at all from any location in the motor bay

Last year i had a leaky front coolant seal so i replaced that as well and everything was fine up until this point.

I've searched quite a few times and have found issues of no oil pressure at idle or startup and low oil pressure but i havent seen a thread that describes this specific problem.

If anyone has any ideas or can steer me in the right direction im at a total loss and would greatly appreciate any help.

have you checked w/either the sender removed or filter to see if oil flows when the engine is turned?

if yes you've got oil flow and things now point to a possible blown front cover gasket at the oil passage to the OMP.

have you removed the oil pressure sending unit and hooked up a manual pressure gauge?

thanks for the replies evo_koa and CluBuser.

I'm going to pull the pressure sending unit later and see if i have oil flow when i turn the engine.

I lost most of my tools in a house fire last year and im slowly rebuilding my collection. Unfortunately that means i do not have my pressure gauge anymore i will have to get out to the store tomorrow to pick one up.

i will update this a bit later once i get the chance to get outside and again thanks for the replies guys

Have you looked at the factory service manual on how to test the oil pressure gauge and sending unit?
