WA 87 t2 Rom fuse keeps blowing and gauge cluster keeps dieing

I have a 87 t2

The Rom fuse under the dash keeps blowing for some reason. Has anyone run into this? The car will run fine for anywhere from 5 min to an hour then the fuse will blow and the car will die randomly. Has anyone had this happen to them?

The Room fuse powers the interior lights, radio, alarm and pin 3J of the ECU. Now none of these are integral to the running of the car. The Room fuse is 7.5 amps. Are you absolutely sure it is the Room fuse that is blowing and only the Room fuse?

On another note, if your ECU was rewired then this could help to explain your problem. Pin 3J, powered by the Room fuse, is not required to run the car. Pin 3I, which powers the ECU, is required to run the car. If these wires were switched then if the Room fuse blew it would cut power to the ECU and this would kill the engine. Might be something you want to look in to.

The Rom fuse randomly blows as well as the fuse right above it witch is the main fuse. The one that sicks out.

It's the 'Room fuse' and there is no Main fuse in the interior fuse box. On the top of the fuse box lies the 30 amp Heater fuse and Defog fuses. I gather you are referring to the 30 amp Defog fuse which powers the rear window defroster and this has nothing to do with the ability for the car to run. Have you checked the fuses in the engine fuse box such as the 80 amp Main fuse which powers the Defogger fuse? When these fuses blow do your wipers and turn signals work w/key to on?

ops my mistake. Its the ROM use the meter fuse under the dash that keep blowing. The gauges die randomly well driving and then the car will die randomly sometimes. As soon as I replace the 2 fuses the car starts right back up and goes for apx 5 min before popping. they are both 7.5 amp fuses/

Use this link which shows the fuse box diagram. Neither of these are related to the car running.

https://www.rx7club.com/2nd-generati...faq-fc-494667/

The Meter fuse powers the gauges among other items ( also powers the electric Cooling Fan found in front of the radiator, powers the Idiot Lights, Alternator warning light relay in the CPU and another warning unit in the CPU. You'll need to unplug the items that the Meter fuse powers to see which item is causing it to blow. Same thing goes for the Room fuse.

You need to look through the wiring diagram of the FSM to find where the B/Y wire from the Meter fuse runs to and the Blue/Red wire of the Room fuse connects to.

Is there something wired into the circuit that would draw a lot of current? Like a fuel pump that blows the fuse and cuts power to itself.

My Room fuse keeps blowing out. I just had the fuel pump and oil pump replaced. What should I look for. I have replaced the room fuse twice and it immediately blows out.
