Disconnect things associated with the meter fuse. See jpg. Also make sure the meter fuse is a 7.5 amp fuse not a lower amperage fuse.

haha, i had such a ******* headache w/ the meter fuse i dont even like talking about it

do as hailers says... then if that doesnt work, go under car and unplug the 5th gear/reverse sensors and see if the fuse stops blowing. those sensors are not on the electrical diagram in the factory service manual, but they DO get power from the meter fuse.

then if your car is like mine was, and even after you fix the electrical short and the guages dont work, re-grounding the ecu might help.

Yo. Niner's right. That I'm looking at the 88 manual online and the 7.5 amp fuse goes to the meter and warning lights, cruise, overdrive sys, backup lights, auto adjust suspension, cooling fan, heater and air, theft deterent, warning buzzer or chime door lock cylinder and ignition key cylinder lights.

I think niner is on the right trail. Under the car and disconnect the 5th gear switch. Makes more sense than one of the actual meter items being toast.

Both my TII's had shorted reverse switches that did it. The 5th gear switches were ok still.
