1994 R2 Overheating!

Im buying this 1994 red R2, it is having some overheating problems. let me start off by saying what he replaced in hopes of fixing it. 3 core aluminum radiator, water pump, thermostat, fan relays, 2-12" 10 blade electric fans, gt 300 hood, apexi intercooler. it was overheating before he did all that and it still is overheating. i drove it and it kinda just climbs gradualy. his coolant temp gauge will go off saying to add coolant but it is filled all the way and when it over heats and spews out from under the passenger headlight(overflow bottle). fans are running also. could this be cooling seals? running 60/40 coolant mixture. im buying it with the intention of motor will probably have to come out for cooling seals. it has 86k miles and no rebuilds on engine or turbos. WHAT YOU GUYS THINK THE PROBLEM IS? here is pic of engine bay

you think coolant seals for sure? thats what i narrowed it down to. i was going to try and flush cooling system and make sure there is no air when i trailer it back to my house. we ran it with out the thermostat and still slowly starts over heating.

$9800!!!

Sounds like coolant seals.

Also - Body kit looks like ***, Ebay Racing and Development Specials all under the hood...

Apexi Intercooler? Hell no.

That car looks and sounds like MAYBE (maybe) a $5000 car. He would be lucky to get $4500 for it.

9800 is too much for that car, especially in this economy. It needs paint, motor, and body parts (bumper, lights, etc.), so it's basically a roller. He didn't duct the IC, and put on junk parts. Real worth? Whatever a buyer in your area is willing to buy it for. Offer him fair roller prices (do research in the FS section), explain to him why you're offering him that much, and if he says no, then walk away. Keep an eye on it and go back if it sits for a few months and offer him the same amount of money. He may think again about your offer.

alright so offer him like 7000??? he is so into the fact that its a R2 and theres only 385 of them made so a doubt he'll go for it. but im going to throw it out there and explain it to him what you said. he is giving me all the stock parts though, radiator, hood, intercooler, bumper all that. he done alot of nice touch ups its just the fact that its over heating. how much is it for cooling seals if i pull engine and install after its rebuilt?

Sooo - how do you know its a real R2? Seemed full of crap about the rest of the stuff.

I don't see the strut tower brace...
Does it have a sun roof?
Dual oil coolers?
Suede seats?

Thats really about the only differences. Big deal.

Looks like the guy spent more on the clamps than the intercooler..

For comparison, I bought my running/drivable/smoggable FD for 6500 dollars about four years ago.

It was ready for a rebuild (low compression in both rotors), but it still ran fine and I drove it 200 miles to the guy who did the work with no problems.

Figure a decent rebuild will be at least 2000 dollars, the body work and paint will be another 3000 if done right, do they have smog laws in Texas? If they do, that thing'll probably fail so that's another $?? for cats, airpump, etc.

In the long run, it may be cheaper to buy a clean, unmolested, well-running one for around $9000 or so, IMO.

i offered him a lower amount, i talked to one of my friends tune places(KAN TUNING in dallas) and he was saying about 3000 to rebuild if i pull out the engine and put it back in. thats with a 900 porting. also said well have to see if the rotor housings will need replaced.

I agree.. not worth even close to 9800.00

I would say $6000.00 max and it better have really clean interior, no accidents, and a CLEAN documented mileage title..
................Otherwise take your money and walk...... much better deals out there...

People are giving cars away these days with legit upgrades valued at double what they are asking...

Talk to Fritz Flynn.. he seems to be the master and finding these types of deals.. selling off all the extras, while putting to car back to stock, and then selling the car to a more than happy buyer..

Too expensive for the condition it is in. Sounds to me like a coolant seal.
