1991 ECU trouble
Help! 1991 vert, 77K miles, all original, sleeps in garage most of the time. Pulled out, warmed up in
driveway, I smelled that familiar electrical burning smell, noticed a wisp of smoke from the passenger side.
Immediately shut off engine, pulled battery cable. Tracked to the ECU. Removed ECU, opened, obvious
burned component ( a quad high power Darlington switching transistor.)
Dilemma: I found another ECU on Ebay but I dont want to plug it in and burn it up if there is something
in the car that caused it to fail or if it failed on its own.
I found a place online that repairs ECU's, perhaps they could tell me why it failed, but if they cant, I still
have a problem. I'm in SE Virginia, no shops I know of for the RX7.
Suggestions?
Thanks much.
