trouble, trouble, and more trouble.......

hey guys.....guess what i was doing this weekend??????

trying to get a semi-peripheral 13b to start and stay running.. The symptoms are usual, it will crank forever, cause about 2 batteries to go dead, wont start on start assist with the charger, but when we push start it, it fires right up, it will rev fine, and after that it just dies.

The car btw is a tube chassis 1st gen, jerico, 9 inch rear, semi-peripheral, t-66, 1680x4, microtech ltx12, factory distrubutor system.

When we get the car to start, it will smoke alot out of the catch can, the exhaust, and it seems like it blowing alot of carbon out the exhaust, since there is only a 3' piece of downpipe. Also, i noticed that it was leaking oil from under the front cover.....like veryyyy black oil (like it was mixing with fuel). I wanted to do a compression test, but i didnt see the sense..... The owner tols me he hadn't run the car at ALL for the past 2 months, and i think from my recollection, the car had overheated last time after they did a burnout and brought it to the line...

Do you think he is overdue for a rebuild????? I think so..

why not disconnect the catch can and put your thumb on the filler neck port, see if it's making noticeable pressure during crank? Oil seals could very well be shot

i agree....thats the first thing i thought, since it was sitting for a very long time, that carbon could be built up on the apex seals and oil control rings and such..
