Can't get my RX-7 started. The battery voltage is fine, battery is only a year old, reads just over 12 volts, and the starter works (ie, the engine and fan spin). But, it just doesn't seem to want to fire. It's sputtering a little. I'm wondering if the spark plugs are getting any power (I was thinking of removing each and checking for a spark this weekend). Any ideas ? This just happened overnight. Thanks in advance.

 

Did you smell gas when you tried to start it you may have flooded it and the cars will not unflood with time also if you did flood it you may have fowled the plugs out

 

Try the ATF trick, should help out....

 

Use oil, not ATF.

sound like your having the same problem i was having on my 81
i got it started buy putting mmo in the carby but of course you have injection so thats not an option.....

do the atf treatment found at mazspeed.com's facts section (mazspeed local here ) but use mmo instead.... works like a charm

you can also pull out your fuel pump fuse and turn it over a few times... then put the fuse back in and try her out...

Try removing the Green fuse for the fuel pump. After it is removed crank it and let it turn over about 5 times. Put the fuse back in and try agian. Work every time for me.

 

I think the right fuse to pull is actually a 30A fuse but if you go to the fuse box under the hood on the drivers side it is the inner most fuse and it disables the fuel pump and the ignition I think. You can pull that fuse and crank the engine for 15 seconds or so with the gas pedal to the floor (all the way now) and that is for little flooding for a worse case of flooding use the same procedure exept this time after pulling the fuse take the top spark plug out put ATF in and I think ATF is better it will remove some carbon from the engine and let the oil seals seal better after putting ATF in the engine leave the plugs out hold the petal to the floor and crank for 15 -20 seconds put the plugs back in and if it doesn't start it's a different problem also when it starts it will smoke very heavily but it shouldn't and won't hurt if if you only do it once or twice

 

RX-7.com (Rotary Performance) diagrams the proper procedure for unflooding the vehicle in great detail. Pictures and everything. Check the web-site out. It gives two methods for doing this.
