13btt

Ok, I just got off the phone with one of those japanese engine places and they said they had some 13B's for sale...

They apperently had some 13BT's which he said were single turbos out of most likely late 80's RX-7's....they also had a 13BTT which he said was a twin turbo out of a cosmo...

Now the 13BT's apparently didn't have their electronics and I'd need to buy/find a computer for the thing...the 13BTT was apparently pretty much complete, he wanted ~$750 for the 13BT and ~1100 for the 13BTT...are these reasonable prices?

The idea here is to replace the 12A in my 79 RX-7, which one do you guys think would be better for the task? I've never read anything about the 13BTT, are they any good? Do they make much power? Would they be a royal pain in the *** to transplate? Are the engines the same thing once the turbos come off? or are there actuall differences in the castings?

Thanks for the help...

The 13BT is from the Turbo 2 model FC3S (2nd Gen) RX7. Ask them if its a mechanical (older) or electrical (newer) oil metering pump. The 13BTT is a 13BREW, its a FD3S (3rd Gen) motor. If they have one for $1100 I would buy that, its a good deal. Those go for a lot more than $1100 anywhere else. $750 for the 13BT is average price.

Since youre looking for a replacement for your 12A, I would say get the 13BREW since youre getting a very good deal, but what are your goals for the car? The 13BT is simple and the ECU/harness is easy to find. Fitment is no problem too. Im not too sure if the 13BREW can fit with the stock twin turbos.

Maybe AJC13B can help.

Goals for the car? you mean besides seeing it actually run one day The goal for the car is to turn it into my personal go-kart...light weight first, power second...

Are you sure about the 13BTT being out of the 3rd gen? The guy on the phone said it came out of a Cosmo, are they the same motor? Cuase if they are I'm not sure I really want it, I'm told the 3rd gens are just a rats nest of wires and hoses...and that the turbos are to restrictive for any real power...But you seem pretty convinced its a good deal...why, do you think I could make more power with that motor without blowing it up?

I'm thinking a simpler turbo setup might be the way to go...is it feesable to simply up the boost on those 13BT's for more power, and only buy 92 octane gas? Or is the turbo too small to do a good job spinning much faster?

Thanks a bunch for the help...

The 3rd gen and the cosmo arent exactly the same motor but theyre close, really close. If I were you, I would just go with the 13BT from the 2nd gen. I was just surprised that they were selling a 13BREW from a cosmo for only $1100. The 13BREW makes about 50 more horses but a 13BT (series 5) will do just fine for what youre looking for in a fun car. Try to grab the newer 13BT's, they have more power. Let me know if you have anymore questions about the 13BT's, I have parts all over the place, etc...
