are you asking can either shaft be used to build a 13B engine?

Sorry should have detailed it fully -

Interchangeable as in usable in each respective engine :

13b RE shaft in S5t2 & S5t2 shaft in 13b RE

13b RE as in the cosmo engine not " RE meaning Rotary Engine "

Thanks

All pre-RX-8 13B eccentric shafts are interchangeable in an engine. The main thing you have to worry about is the stack on the front. I don't know about the FD's case (because its front stack is different, thrust bearing was changed) but people regularly use '74-85 eccentric shafts in later engines because they do not use the thermal pellet. The front bolt is a different thread, too.

thanks for the info, i got lucky as well - a friend actually had both shafts laying around, so i took som meassurements of the statgear lobe area and oil hole to bearing placement, as to where they match up with the statgear bearings.

se pics, there seems to be som differences between the shafts.

FD and RX-8 shafts are tapered at both ends. Not sure about Cosmo.

bringing this up again, read somwhere that the reason for differences could be wether the e-shafts comes frome an auto / mt engine. And they also are different rear stationary gears for the auto / mt engines.

any mid-christmas inputs. ?

thanks.

The auto E shaft won't have a pilot bearing,so if you plan to sue the engine with a manual trans you need to install a pilot bearing.

Pilot bearing is installed, the engine is finishd, i used the RE shaft, but it could always be interesting to know if theres a practical reason for the differences in the measurements ive noted on the pictures regarding the bearing journals.

And also interesting to know what the purpose of the hard rubber guide thats on the rear of the front counterweigt and on the rear of the oilpump gear, have only seen this on my 20b and on the 13bRE, it seems likes it made to stop noise from the oilpump chain, maby influencing the knock sensor used on these cars, the cosmos.

i can post a picture tomorow.

thanks :-)
