[GarageAlpha] Mazda RX-7 [FD3S] Hyper Fuel Baffle / Surge Tank Cover

Got Fuel Slosh? NOT ANYMORE!

The Garage Alpha Hyper Fuel Baffle / Surge Tank Cover pays homage to the awesome Hyperion / RS Engineering unit which ceased production many, many years ago.

The OEM fuel tank is extremely shallow and the fuel pump and pickup are situated on the (LHD) drivers side of the car - in winding turns fuel can slosh away from the pickup and starve the motor. The Garage Alpha Hyper Fuel Baffle / Surge Tank Cover reduces this fuel slosh and ensures proper fueling needs even when running below 1/2 tank.

The Fuel Baffle / Surge Tank Cover was designed to offer the benefits of an external surge tank without the associated cost, complexity and safety issues. This is accomplished by converting the plastic baffle that surrounds the factory fuel pump into an in-tank surge box.

The Garage Alpha Hyper Fuel Baffle / Surge Tank Cover fits the OEM fuel pump as well as the AEM, Denso (Supra), Walbro and Bosch 044 pumps without any modification. Other pump configurations are possible to clearance whatever setup you have. The system works with every type of Mazda RX-7 [FD3S] including RHD vehicles.

How does the Hyper Fuel Baffle / Surge Tank Cover install? EASY!

So far, we've had TONS of positive feedback on these.

Just bought one of these, very excited to see how it works. I like the simplicity in my experience simple is best! I was struggling with REALLY bad fuel starve even over 1/2 tank of fuel while drifting at M1 in Michigan. E-brake into a tight left-hander, when accelerating out, no power. I've also struggled at US Air e-braking in to a tight left-hander hairpin. So it should be a very clear A-B difference.

Mine came with the metal zip ties. What are the zip ties for?

To secure the cover to the recessed box inside your fuel tank

The tabs that go down into the slots on the recessed slosh box are easily bent up to secure the cover over the box without using the zip ties. I was surprised there wasn't a set of instructions covering that idea.

Here's a pic of my recently installed baffle with the zip ties. Had so many cuts on my arms and hands...in my opinion the zip ties aren't needed but I installed them anyway. You can bend the tabs and it will stay in place. I will have to undo this gain so I can clean up the tank...

Hope it works for your purpose.
For our dedicated autoX car we tried one ....did not work under 3/4 full tank.
Next we tried it with 1/2 tank...cut stock tank in half....still did not work in high g turns below half full tank.
Finally built an in-tank surge' tank to solve fuel starve in high g turns.

Wow that's a little disappointing to hear, but really appreciate the feedback, because that could save me an engine! I think it will work for my purpose for now since I'm not an advanced autocrosser (yet).

Keep tank at 3/4 full and you will be fine,
Our objective was to run with about 5 gallons.....we needed to reach the SSM weight minimum.

Have you guys looked into the Holley HydraMat? seems like an interesting product. i was going to try it years ago on other track cars and never got around to it.
