Anyway,

in 87-88:
clutch-pack LSD that wears out FAST (20-30k isn't unheardof)
rib-case tranny with no 1st gear or reverse synchro
heavier rotors (7k redline)
dual-scroll turbocharger with .86 A/R
itty-bitty little wastegate
smaller IC
flaky ECU

in 89-91
viscous LSD (don't wear out, but don't lockup as well as the clutch pack)
rib-case tranny with 1st gear and reverse synchro
lighter rotors (8k RPM, 7k indicated)
split manifold to turbo with 1.00 A/R
improved wastegate
slightly improved IC
better ECU

There are more differences, but those are the "major" ones.

i basically know those major differences, but i`m asking for ALL differences....i need to know which parts i should use from 89TII on my 87TII....(i`m gonna use 89 ECU/harness/engine/tranny of course)

question is about fuel pump, differential (which ratios are Series 5 diffs ?) i have 4.10 in car right now tough... and other stuff.....

the fuel pumps are the same. the differentials are the same. if you're swapping the ECU/harness/engine/tranny (of course) then let me start with "ALL differences" that you haven't mentioned, hmm...

seats
seatbelts
carpeting
radio surround
logicon illustrations
radio
door speakers
shift ****
...etc...

there're no major differences that aren't included in "ECU/harness/engine/tranny". You really should be consulting a FSM, not an internet forum, though...

thanks

i do have no all years FSM's and i like this way more anyway

would complete front end of that 89 TII fit in 87 frame ? I would not unbolt engine from engine mounts, but take whole front subframe out of rest car, engine and tranny still on it.....

my friend did engine swap that way on 86-87 cars, but i don`t know if that subframe would bolt on my car...

this way would fix all my problems, i wouldn`t need to mess with clutch/flywheel/tranny stuff, i`ll get rid of loose in my power steering as well.....

so brakes and stuff is all same, on function stuff we didn`t mentioned there is only bigger gas tank right ? (would that fit in my car ? :o)

mentioning brakes, would probably keep my brakes since i did them completely not long time ago and they are not bolted to engine but body if i`m correct...

HAHAHAHAHA! I've never heard of someone just unbolting the entire subframe and swapping it! that's great. I don't know if it'd work, but it's worth the measurements, right?

not exactly sure, but the gas tank should bolt up. The only stuff that I can think of that's different I've either mentioned or has been covered already. I say just dive in, and if something barfs, swap it over...

its really not so stupid idea swaping whole thing with subframe....guy had no hoist to jack up engine, but he could unbolt it and jack front of car and get rest of it out on the ground.....on same series car it was no problem with fitting so he is running without any problems now.....

he did that because he had two cars, one with non working motor and another with rear end damage i think and this was the best way for him....considering he is 18 year old, never saw FSM, Hayes manual or any other kind of documentation about FC and this is his first job he did on his first car.....i`m proud to have rotary friends like him here in CZ ;o)

I plan on doing this swap soon too. Just out of curiosity, why are you using the s5 ecu??? I also heard something like the waterpump housong is different, I don't know any specifics on that though.

hIGGI: Uhm, the ECU is on the driver's side of the car. If you want to use the S5 ECU, you've got to use the S5 engine harness. Or just go Haltech IIRC, you should be able to use the passenger side harness with no problems, though.

dcamcoTII: the s5 ecu is a little bit better in terms of spark control and basic "responsiveness". Just a better ECU. Also much more programmable, for those who've got J-spec connections

The waterpump housing is a little bit different. Instead of the "radiator cap" coming off the pump, S5s have a solid arm. Not sure why (can't remember) but there's a reason

Brandon

edit: I actually read his post

If you decide to swap the entire front subframes, it will be easier if you have/borrow a strut tower brace (cast 1 piece RB would be best) you can put on after you jack the body up above the subframe. This will prevent the struts from falling in and you can just wheel the front subframe around (maybe need a caster on the rear of trans) I did it on a FWD Honda w/ engine+trans only weighing 200lbs and it was cake, maybe harder w/4-600lbs though?

87-88 ECU wiring harness is not compatible with 89+ harness. I mean, you could hack it up and make it compatible I guess. lol.

get an 89+ harness and 89+ ECU. Problem solved. or a haltech

VERY BUSY work though. could take you 40 + hours to do.

Please, read my post before answering.....

I DO HAVE 89+ ECU and engine harness, i`m asking about in-car harness which is connected by ONE big plug to ECU

ECU has 3 plug-ins, one big and 2 small...those 2 small goes to engine bay and those will be of course 89+, i`m just asking if i need to rewire whole car or could use 87-88 in-car harness which is under dash and goes to ECU by that one big plug....

i really doubt that haltech wiring goes to your gauge cluster, idiot lights and so.....

Hmm. Good question. I dunno. I would assume it would b/c the parts should be interchangeable. I know the gauge cluster wiring harness instruments are interchangeable. Give it a shot and see what you get.
Good luck.

Try it. If it doesn't work, spice 'em.
