Rex meets stone wall

4/12/04 What a day!! I go over a friends house to hang and park the car. I pull the E brake not thinking that its a steep driveway and maybe I should leave her in gear too. Well I come out 30 minutes later to find her at the bottom of his driveway. She hit the stonewall with the back qaurter panel then bounced the right front quarter panel into his mail box. Well after calling the insurance company I go to my autobody guy. He says $3500 -$4000 in damage. I see the sudjuster on Wednesday morning, the sutobaody guy knows him and will tell it is a mint car and to work something out. CCCRRRRAAPPPP!!!!!!!!!

What do you think of the cost? Hope its not a full total!

More to come

I think that quote is very realistic. Body work is not cheap. And with the damage int the area it is, that just compounds the problem because that is not an easy area to fix. Just stick it out, and get it fixed. It will be worth it in the end.

You might want to have the alignment checked as well. The wheel looks like it might be bent in your first picture.

Could just be the angle of the picture but the tire does look like it was scuffed.

Any body repair schools nearby you know of? That's what I'd suggest doing. Certainly it should be the cheapest, as labor should be free.

Ouch!! I agree that unless the axle, etc. is bent, $6-800 would be reasonable.

dude 4,000 is fuggin rediculous. our body guys at my dealership do way more labor intensive jobs for half that cost.

my dad has owned a body shop for years and 4K is laughable. with the paint and materials it should be no more than 1200 at the absolute MAX! that is a high quote with parts, labor and materials. i would say around 750-900.

The rear quarter is a nasty place to get banged up. The front fender would be easy to replace. I can't tell form the pic how difficult it would be to bang out that dent in the rear but if you need to get a new bit there thats where the money is going to run up.

I personally HATE doing body work, so I can see why something like that would cost so much. But others may not see it that way. I absolutely hate doing any kind of body work. When I do something, it normally doesn't turn out as expected, and looks real crappy. Oh well, just something I will never get into.

I would never be able to give up MY 7. I have put too many hours of hard work and sweat into it. Along with thousands of dollars, and it don't even run yet (well, not properly anyway). I just couldn't get rid of my 7 over something like that. I would just leave it the way it is untill I get the money to fix it right. But thats just me. I take great pride in my car. There is just so much custom work done to it I could not possibly recreate that.

The quote is probably high, but you need to look at what is included in that quote.

Are they going to paint the hole car, just the dammaged areas, or just the one side, is the car going to be striped to bare metal, how is the body work going to be done ie. cut the fender out and weld in a new one or fill the dents or what.

Shopping based on price is fine just make sure you are compareing appels to appels.

There are alot of differences in body shops, workmanship, and ethics. Not every one has the same commitment to quality

Besides all this NOTHING looks worse then a car with a cheap *** paint job

EDIT: Woo Hoo I have No Life
