i am looking into getting a lightened flywheel, but im not sure what to get.... has anyone used an aluminum flywheel for street use??? even though its recommended for road racing only???? if so have any feed back on it??

I have an Aassco lightweight flywheel not so sure on weight but I know its widly used in SCCA Speed Touring Challenge. It wasnt to expensive, cheaper that Rx7.com so I have no complaints, if u want their number let me know.

The Racing Beat unit is Excellant

 

I have the Racing Beat aluminum flywheel. Takes some getting used to but youll be better off in the end getting it. It is alot of fun and when I race other Rx 7's with same mods but lacking the flywheel I have the advantage.

 

Next time search, i realise there is alot of junk on here but try being more specific to your problems. and buy the Racing Beat, they are nice

I recently noticed someone else with one of those too. Could you tell us how much it cost you? Ausi prices have convinced me that there is no reason for a flywheel to cost $400.

 

i got my fly wheel its 12 pounds, for $90. new not used. IT does WONDERS I live in australia

 

I have a 12lb Centerforce flywheel and I wouldnt go back. Starting is hard for me and my car because my rpms drop and I dont like reving high or sliping clutch but usually its fine. The rev difference is alot better and more responsive. The responsive part of it is whats so good. Feels like a better car.

 

only 360 and you can still drag launch with it with no sacrafice in 60foot times or at least thats what it seemed.

i hear that the car wont idle too well with an aluminum flywheel, like it will almost seem to die out when it's just idling,

anybody know if that's true or not?

 

I have the stock flywheel now. I have heard the same thing about idling with the aluminum. It seems like my car when I put the clutch in and the RPMs drop from 2k. It hits 1k for a split second then dips to like 600. Sometimes, during stop and go driving in traffic the RPMs will drop to like 400. Is this typical?

 

Its comon but its not the flywheel its the tuning of the car. Readjust the TPS sensor or something. My Car before and after I put this 12lb aluminum flywheel on my idle was at 850 rpms plus and minus 20rpms according to the S-AFC....The idle was more steady than most 7s I see. Almost factory out of the box idle pretty much. If you hit the gas the tack will drop lower than 800 like 200 or so for a split second and jump up to perfect idle again. No stalling what so ever. I think you might want to advance your timing a tad if you expierience stalling or jumpy idle. And your TPS and spark plugs , wires exc. I have first hand expierience so trust me 12lbs is not enoughf for your car to screw up like that.

 

wont you lose top end with the lightened flywheel? I know you can accelerate better but it doesnt hold inertia like a stock flywheel. Ive read that if you can strike a balance between too light and stock you can gain much better performance and not lose too much top end but ive been afaid to look for one cause i dont know what weight is too light....any one have any info?

 

my 1st gen had light flywheel dunno waht brand and my 2nd gen has a Mazfix ligh flywheel id never go back to a stock one

nope my 1st gen one billet steel and so is my 2nd gen

 

I have the lightened steel from Rotary Performance and it works pretty good. It feels a little more responsive without being too extreme.
