RX7 S4 Transmission to RX8 Transmission

Yeah there was a post about this but I saw a video on a Stock Rx8 going top speed at a 180mph. Now why doesn't the Rx7 do that. Someone told me it would be useless to do the swap because your basically putting the same transmission in, but it has another gear. I don't get it.

The rx-8 is limited to 180 km/h. The FC should easily be able to go just as fast. Now if you go that fast and your not on a track your are retarded.

If you want more info on the RX-8 transmission you should do a little search. From what I've heard it essentially a miata trans.

uh correct me if I am wrong but by rough calculation 100km/hr = 60m/hr so 180km/hr would only be about 110m/hr............

hmm I had my Rx8 topped out at 155 miles per hour which is about what 260km/hr now with all the error factored in I was only doing 151 via radar but still was bad a$$ on the track no, controlled enviornment yes where cops present yes was it legal yes.

so i think your tranny swap isn't a bad idea just don't drag race it that is where they have shown to be a little weak the benefit would be closer ratios overall getting you up to speed faster, i don't remember the rear end ratio on the Rx8 i think that your fc has a lower ratio so it might have a little more on the top if the engine can pull it but i would make sure that you have lots of downforce

Maybe it's only the japanese versions that cut-off at 180km/h? I never drove an RX-8 to be sure.

RX-8 tranny install into a FC is covered in the FAQ for FC, and is not a recommended modification by any means.

and the FE is speed limited too 149 MPH, so unless they were using an after market computer, it is not going to make it 180. So any video you saw, was either in Km and not miles, or it was not a stock car.

It is also pointless to do the swap because The shifter will be in your radio, IIRC.

Why does everyone think top speed is everything? I'm all for acceleration off the line, I don't care if I can't reach 120. I have a hard time reacing 130 not to mention its usless doing so and your just wasting fuel, but my car still has plenty of acceleration and will beat its fair share of ricers out there. Don't think that I street race because I don't, I just see them acelerate past me at WOT and think to my self, your car sucks...

No I don't like top speed. There is no way I would reach top speed. I like horsepower and torque. I just wanted to know the answer to this question

what do you not understand? as mentioned above, this is covered in the FAQ for FC

and the FE is speed limited too 149 MPH, so unless they were using an after market computer, it is not going to make it 180. So any video you saw, was either in Km and not miles, or it was not a stock car. Remember the FE speedo says both KmPH and MPH by the push of a button

I understand all of it. If that thread that is in the FAQ is the one that I saw. It does not talk about the speed of that transmission. What I was told that the FC is like the Rx8. They both have the same top speed range. The only thing is that the Rx8 has another gear.

Now if you look at this website on mazdatrix. They are doing a dyno on an Rx8 doesn't say that it is stock but doesn't say that it is modified. It say on the speedo that it is mph (miles per hour) and you can tell me why I was told wrong.

(I'm not trying to be rude I just hate people that tells me to go look when they can just say it. In the time that they have to tell me to go look they can just type it out and tell someone.)

haven't you seen f&f: tokyo drift?! remember, they say that the cops can't go faster than 180km/h, so stock cars are limited to that

it's odd that you are comparing an FE and FC tranny. The FE revs significantly higher than the FC and also has a different final drive ratio.

But the other gear is in the middle of the tranny's range not at the end:

FE gears:
1st 3.760
2nd 2.269
3rd 1.645
4th 1.187
5th 1.000
6th 0.843

Rear end: 4.44

as you can see, the FC 4th gear also being 1.00 is quite simular and with the FE's 6th gear actually being taller than a FC 5th, so there is no advantage using a FE tranny.

This has been covered quiet a few times in quite a few threads. You should have gone a looked... in fact I pulled those numbers with a 5 second search for "RX8 Gear Ratio". So shame on you for not looking. Do you think the rest of the world should cater to you as well... if you had looked/searched you would have had your answer two days ago.

And a Dyno run is quite different than a road run... you don't have aerodynamic drag on a Dyno run, so you shouldn't be comparing a FC to a FE unless you did the same kind of dyno run on a FC.

guess that proves that it is not a stock car... eh???

Something that the original poster claimed, and I called BS on.

yet you still felt the need to resurrect a dead thread...

Gladly - Have you ever seen the gears on the FE tranny? Ever talked to someone who rebuilt it? Ever actually seen one of the trans'? The gears are roughly the same size as the TII boxes, a little smaller but they are ~30% bigger than the miata box. Before you go off spouting wrong info about the strength of the boxes, stop and think about WHEN they are breaking are you'll realize that you're just another wannabe e-thug trying to enlarge his e-***** with bogus info trying to gain props on a car forum when infact you couldn't be more wrong if you tried.

Yes, yes it has been covered quite a few times and the next time my motor is out I plan on taking pics of an N/A trans next to a Type-R box next to an FE box and pointing out all the differences, gear ratios, problems with the swap, and why it's not for the faint hearted but does have it's rewards IN THE RIGHT APP. Most people won't see a benefit and in fact most would see a decrease in both MPG & top end speed. But what do I know? I just ran all the numbers & posted them in a few different threads
