Installation Questions.

Hey guys I just read through the microtech threads and did not find answers to these questions, maybe some of you can answer these so that others in the future can see these questions answered?

I just got the Microtech LT-10s.
-Do I need to run my stock ecu and harness or can that be completely removed from my car? The main reason I am asking is if I remove the ECU will my wipers, lights, radio and such forth still work?

This is the first question off the top of my head, maybe as the install goes I will just add questions to this so that they can all be condensed in one thread.

your wipers switchs and lights are not controlled from stock ecu.
the ecu only control the engine.
you have to remove the stock ecu.
you can remove the stock engine harness and use the microtech harness (but you need the connectors plugs... from stock harness or other )
or you connect the microtech harness into stock harness

The wipers will not work if you remove the stock emissions harness as the wiper wiring is part of it. To fix this, simply separate the wiper wiring out and run it as a small sub-harness. The water temp sender for the dash gauge and the alternator wiring is also part of this harness.

The knock sensor, there is no place on my microtech harness to wire it into. Is this something I just cut off and leave there?

The knock sensor is not used. You can remove it if you wish.

Thanks Aaron for you help, I have a few other questoins.

The last couple of days I have been getting rid of some junk and tearing apart the wiring harness now down to the wiring.

1:The water temp switch does it matter which wire goes where or is it one of those things that it doesn't matter.

2: The injectors, I see that one wire is supposed to get 12v sourse and the other is the signal from the ECU. The way I figure it works is that the ECU grounds the resistor and opens it. My question is the same as with the water temp switch. does it matter which wire goes where on the injector? If it does matter how do you know which wire goes to which injector?

3: There is a spade connector on the water pump housing, above the water temp sensor what is the purpose of this connector? Do I need to wire one of the AUX outputs of the microtech to it?

1. The water "temp" switch is actually a variable resistor known as the ECT (engine coolant temp) sensor. You an connect it either way.

2. Injectors are not resistors, the are inductors. But either way it does not matter which way the wires connect. I like to keep it consistent for appearance purposes, and traditionally I connect the +12V to the pin closest to the firewall.

3. That is the temp switch for the factor e-fan. You ignore it.

Another question, while wiring up the trailing coils the pink and white wires are connected to the microtech.

The yellow is tach output, i'm assuming this connection stays as is and gives the stock tach its input.

The question is for the grey wire (coil side) the wiring diagram says 'N/C'

What does n/C mean? No Connection? If it is no connection do I just leave it in with the stock connection or do I cut it so that the wire has no input/output?

basically the question is what do I do with the grey wire comming off the trailin coil?

The tach wire stays as is.

N/C means no tonnection. You can cut it, leave it stock, or do whatever...

I hate to be such a tard.

I am trying to find the fuel pump relay to which I have to wired the microtech to.

I am looking at the FSM:

and if you look on page 4B-76 it goes into detail on quite a few different relays.

after doing a search there are different relays that people have coined "fuel pump relay" I've heard of one under the dash by the steering column but I've also hear the main EGI relay called the FP relay.


I am just hoping one of you can direct me to the right relay to wire into and if it is the one under the dash I think I have found it but i'm not sure if its the right one, how can I tell?

Don't use the stock fuel pump relay. Run a new power and ground wire to the pump direct from the battery, switched by the relay Microtech includes. Use 12 gauge and fuse appropriately.

So just to make sure I got this right, and for future guys like me with question I will make sure everything is right

Please correct me if i'm wrong.
Pin 85 is ignition (pink microtech wire)
Pin 86 is fuel pump switch wire (green microtech wire)
Pin 30 is battery w/ 30 A inline fuse.
Pin 87a is ground (battery)
Pin 87 is the power wire to the fuel pump.

secondly how do I track down which wire is the power to the fuel pump? do you just open up the trap door on the tank?

In my first post there are a few relays associated with the fuel system, do I remove all those or do I leave them in?

DO NOT CONNECT 87A TO GROUND! If you do, you will be creating an instant direct short to ground. Your fuse will blow. The rst of the wiring is correct.

You can track down the fuel pump wire by looking at the FSM. Off the top of my head, it is the blue wire on the tank side of the connector. I COULD BE WRONG, so check the manual.

You can leave the stock relays in place if you want since you will be cutting the wire to the fuel pump anyway.

Edit: I should read the instruction manual. (microtech)

in the MT manual it says to use a 15A fuse for the FP but the stock system uses a 30A fuse.

what is the correct fuse rating to use for the FP relay?

If you are using the stock pump or a stock replacement (Walbro, etc.), a 15A fuse will be fine. If you are using a man's pump (ie. Aeromotive, etc.) then you will need to use a 20 or 30A fuse.

X2^^ mine did not come with one either, ive done plenty of reading but I have not worked on enough electrical things to make me want to do it without asking questions.

You can go to an auto parts store and buy a standard 12V SPDT relay.
