The Haltech is about as cheap as you can go for fully programmable EMS.

yeah RX-7s are expensive in that way! For a Honda you can just install a re flashable chip in the ECU and run what ever you want via lap top and burner.

 

Any time you want to go full standalone it's going to be expensive.

$1250. Standalones are not cheap, and unless you're planning on lots of modifications, I don't really recommend it.

 

Well.. Im not looking to heavily mod the car.. Im wanting a S5 Turbo II and I wanna push about 300-350 to the wheels which from what Ive read doesent seem to be very hard to achieve. Do you think Id need it to achieve those numbers?

 

Yeah, it would be a good idea. At such horsepower levels, driveability and gas mileage would start to suffer if you were using some sort of piggyback program.

There are other alternatives... Some are cheaper, some aren't. Of the newer ecu's within the price range, there are the Wolf 3D V4, Microtech Lt(x)8s, Autronic SMC, Electromotive TecIII (maybe one price range higher), and Haltech E6X. The E6X is currently having issues with interference with CAS wires though, and it would probably be a good idea to hold out on that. But all of the above ECU's listed are quite popular with rotaries.

Microtech LT12 is a good one.

You'd want an LT8 for your S5 engine 2 rotor engine. I love mine. 240rwhp and 240rwtq with stock ports, stock turbo, stock catback exhaust, 10psi .

Add a bigger turbo and intercooler and you'd have 350 RWHP no problem

 

the lt-8s will work fine for you

 

I paid 650 for my Haltech with the wiring harness, Used... Search around, you'll find one. BTW, its an E6K, which i don't think they make anymore, but there is a wealth of knowledge out there about them, and Haltech still supports them.

 

It isn't limited to those configurations.

 

Yeah, just search around. I heard there is a group buy for the LT8S for $750 right now. I sold my LT8 a few months ago to a forum member for $700 shipped with labtop adaptor.

 

If you were planning on more like 300 hp to the wheels, I think an RTek 1.7 might do it. You can run 720CC secondaries and a walbro and it should be good up to around 300hp. It has nowhere near the controlability of a stand alone, but is a cheap solution. Check it out at:

Thanks for the help everyone.. and Im sorry for being a honda guy.. thats what I started out with and thats all I know.. but I now see that there are much better things out there than hondas.. and I wasent the kind with the big wings, rims, speakers, ect. I just realized that I put alot of time and money to put that stupid thing into the 13s and it wasent worth it. Not only that but also the fact that everyone has them makes me hate it alot more.. anyway, thanks for the help.

Microtech cannot change configurations for different engines by the user.
I don't think the Autronic SMC can fire a Mazda 13B correctly; I know the Autronic SM2 is recommended for the Mazda 13B?
Electromotive TEC3 costs significantly more - around $2,000.

Of all the listed, the Wolf3D V4 is about the closest you can get, but the price is several hundred dollars (US) more.

The Microtech is cheaper, but if you want to change engines, you need to send it back to Microtech AUS.
No, it's not free.
Haltech is user configurable for a number of engine types.

The short answer is "NO". The long answer is debatable and has been discussed in this thread already...
