Is it the same noise as the buzzer of doom (redline/oil/coolant)? or is it more like a beep beep beep?

The beeping noise means that its a Jap import.

I just imported an Rx7 Convertible 1989 with turbo and nice mags etc, and it makes that annoying beep beep beep every time I go over 110.

It drives me mad!

I assume its a buzzer to let you know that you are at the speed limit (I assume the highest speed limit in Japan is 100 kmph). So when it beeps, go faster.

All cars sold in Japan have a 105km/h beeper.

I'm pretty sure there is a screw in the back of the gauge cluster to remove. it'll be near the 180km/h max limit one to also remove

Just remove the screw on the back of the cluster labled 120K or 180K (I don't remeber off the top of my head).

No sense removing the buzzer itself

You have bigger problems than a speed buzzer. If it does it on a turn watch the idiot lights next time. It is either going to be the "Add Coolant" buzzer or the "Check Engine Oil" buzzer.

The screw labeled "180" is the 180km/h speed limiter and the other one should be the speed alarm. Remove them both...

you are experiencing a condition called low oil. you'd better check and fill it before you have none left. the sensor is pretty low in the oil pan, so when u hear it... you're VERY VERY low on oil

Of course you can disable it. Find the little piezio speaker thats producing the beep and cut one of the wires on it.

The power steering computer has it's own error code system which will emit gentle beeps (versus louder the redline, LOW COOLANT, LOW OIL buzzer) when it encounters a problem with the power steering system.
1-beep, pause, repeat - in case abnormality of speed sensor signal:
In case broken wires or short circuits occur to sensors or harnesses, the buzzer sounds 60-seconds after the engine speed signal of 2200 rpm continues for 18-seconds.
2-beeps, pause, repeat - in case abnormality of engine speed signal:
The buzzer sounds when the vehicle speed signal is input and no engine speed signal is input (short circuit, broken wire, etc.)
3-beeps, pause, repeat - in case abnormality of stepping motor signal:
The buzzer sounds when there are broken wires or short circuits in coils or harnesses.
4-beeps, pause, repeat - in case abnormality of the power steering microcomputer:
The buzzer sounds when there are circuit troubles other than with the micro computer.
5-beeps, pause, repeat - in case abnormality of steering sensor signal:
The buzzer sounds 60-seconds after broken wire or short circuit occurs to sensors or harnesses when the vehicle speed is above 40Km/h (25 mph).
Continuous beep - in case abnormality of the power steering microcomputer:
The buzzer sounds if the microcomputer becomes abnormal and cannot control the system.

The speed sensor signal sender is in the dash speedometer.
Check it's connector & solder joints.
Check the connector at the steering control box above the drivers left knee.

*blinks* How can you not know your oil level? I check it every time I get gas, and usually sometime in between when I'm waiting for people... the only way I'd ever have to deal with the low oil level buzzer is if I had a severe leak somewhere.

That's interesting that there's a speed limit buzzer in some cars. I suppose it's a good way to cut down excessive speeding, at least for people who don't have the knowhow to disable it.
