Unhappy Factory alarm problems

My car has been out of commision for about two weeks or so from other things that I have been doing. I just started it a few days ago to move it and noticed that the security system wasn't arming when I locked the doors. I didn't think much of it at the time. The next day I got the things down with the car and went for some test runs. I figured by then the battery would be fully charged back up and then the alarm might function again. But to my amazement it still did not arm. Has anyone had this problem or know how to fix it?

Thanks in advance,

That happened to me once...where you lock it and shut the door, but then it just unlocks itself again, right? All I did to correct it was turn my key to the "ON" position (no start-up and with all doors/trunk/hood shut) and let it go through the beeping it does, then I just took the key out and tried to lock the car again. Worked like a charm. Not sure to this day why that happened that one time though.

I will try what you did to see if that does anything, but I believe when I shut the doors and locked it that it stayed locked but just didn't turn the security on. I will recheck it tonight but I think it was staying locked when I shut the door. Thanks for the info though.

jonboy,

if any of the sensors are "open" then the system won't arm. i would check the door sensors, hood sensor, & rear hatch sensor. one of those sensors is probably bad (or disconnected). you said your car was "out of commission" -- if you're doing any work to the front of the car, i would especially check the hood sensor.

good luck.

Where can I find these sensors? Are they shown on the workshop manual?

jonboy,

the hood sensor is located under the latching mechanism?? i think it's kind of a bitch to get to (unless you already have your front bumper off -- or maybe if you just pull the entire latch mechanism out all together, it'll probably come out with it. -- i've never actually seen it, so i'm purely guessing at this point). the door "sensors" are probably the same ones that control the interior dome/courtesy lights. if the dome/courtesy lights don't come on when you open either door, then it could either indicate a blown bulb or a bad door "sensor". the rear hatch sensor, i would guess, is very similar to the one used on the hood.

i haven't checked, but i would think that it would be in the shop manual, too.

again,.....good luck.......
