I need help with an IMSA question. I think I'm obsessed.
I'm trying to find more info on this car. I belive it was the 1979 IMSA Daytona race car. I'm trying to find any info I can on it. I'm mostly finding info on the Porsche looking widebodys and not on these. Rivet on flares are amazing on this car, I want to put them on my 85 but I fear they need to be custom made. The last one is a model box cover of what looks like a street car witht he flares I want. Any thoughts on how I should proceed?

Selectmaz Australia has a replica Group C body kit http://www.selectmaz.com.au/home.htm
Head down to Irvine and see the car in person at Mazda R&D.

there were two cars built #7 and #77 by the factory to go racing with in 78-79, #77 was lhd and piloted by americans, #7 is rhd, and driven by the japanese. #77 had a red paint scheme. #77 later turned into the racing beat car, and was eventually crashed by jim downing, in 80-81.
the cars are prolly prepped just like it says to in the comp manual, PP 12a, comp 5 speed, etc etc
those wheels are old school ssr's...

ive seen #7 run a few times, it bascially runs like a stock car (starts right up hot or cold, idles around 900) but with no muffler you can hear it in the pits DURING a race. sounds great though

So about 360 for the set of four flares and another 360 for the wing. About 780 shipped to the United States. Those are in American dollars. Actually not as bad as I thought 1500 or so includeing shipping. That's almost in line with other widebody kits, I think I'm in love.

I have been around that car quite a bit in the last few years... used to have pics of inside, around, underneath, under the hood, etc. That's my red RX-7 in the pic above. Even gave her a bath for SS8.
It does have a muffler... a must with peripheral ports! http://youtube.com/results?search_qu...79+daytona+rx7 <-- a pass at Laguna Seca
Just about every rotary powered road race car has to have a muffler or two to comply with noise regulations.

Here's a shot from Long Beach

I've had wet dreams about that rear spoiler. And I have to admit, all of the other pieces look great too. That front spoiler looks to be the most "effective" design I've seen so far. Time to start saving my pennies again...
On that first Youtube link; who shot that video? Not a good idea to hire Michael J. Fox as a camera man!

Now that I know where to get the parts, and it's almost affordable compared to other widebody's? I'm actually keeping a mop with me at all times.
Is that lower front bumper the IMSA bumper I read so much about? Or is it something else I need to track down.

look up thread i started, I had the Japan super stock kit (JSS) , it is the same as that kit for the front fenders, with slightly wider ones on the rear, and at the time I had gold mesh SSR's. the problems I had was the previous owner had tried to mold the kit in vice riveting it, and the bondo was cracking all over. I was originally trying to find the JSS kit again but could only find the selectmaz as I wanted to build a replica of the 1984 JSS car. Being that I could not find it I cut it off and replaced it with a mariah kit.
