flex-fans instead of......

would you recomend a flex-fan instead of the factory fan and fan clutch? if so wich one. Or should i get 1 big electric fan or 2 small ones. everyone tells me flex fans are good to keep the motor cool but sucks out horsepower cause its always on. let me know what you think guys...

WHY??? the stock clutch fan cools the car great! The only reason anyone should ever change it is a failing clutch or to gain some hp with a e-fan.
Keep the stock clutch fan if you want a pulley driven set-up. In functioning order, it is MORE than sufficient, and a flex fan would be a step in the negative direction, IMO.

Carrol Smith, the author of "Tune to win" "Prepare to win" and "Build to win" had a discourse on flex fans....
the following is a rehash from memory...

as engine rpms increase, the blades do indeed "flex" flattening out as described, becoming a spinning aerodynamicaly SOLID DISK. So even though you're hauling down the road, the fan blades form an obstruction to air leaving the radiator.

use the stock type fan clutch unless you're goin racing.... then go electric!

if the stick fan fails, then i would say go electric if you can afford it. the extra power and room under the hood is nice. If not the stock unit does its job great.

Minimal. You won't feel it. But every little bit helps!

i kinda felt it on my 88GTU when i went to ele fan, more so just on revs, and the electric fan, depending on the one you get, wont be near as loud or clumbsy as the stock clutch. The room under the hood is just about worth the conversion IMO
