Need help pricing beater/ experiment car
Need help pricing beater/ experiment car. I am looking at a 86 base with a straight body decent tires small spots of surface rust starting. The clear coat is peeling on 3 panels. The car has 169k miles on it. The current owner is a older (30-40) male who bought it 9-10 months ago (or so he says) the car is out of tags and inspection (has been out of both for over a year), and the whole radio / ac controller is pulled out of the dash. He says it runs and smokes at idle but at higher rpms does not smoke. I am going to look at the car tomorrow evening to take a better look at it. But just based off of the outside appearence what would you "experienced" rx7 buyers give for a car like this? Toss me a couple ideas and ill tell you what this guy wants for it.

Clear coat?
The 2nd gens didn't get clear coat did they? Might have been a repaint some time in the past, check over the body carefully with a magnet.

The guy wants 1500 for it and i am laughing my *** off cuz i dont thnik its worth a penny over 500 (and thats just because i think any car that runs is worth 500). So i am gonna look at it tomorrow and point out all the issues i have with it and offer hi the 500. Wish me luck

A friend of mine is looking at an identical sounding car. The guy is asking around 800, but we talked him down. You shouldnt pay more than 600 for that car unless you get the compression checked. Its also a good idea to drive it a lil bit to see if theres a leak on the master cyliner (or just feel for backpressure on the brakes), and make sure it will run for more than 30 seconds

****, i just payed 1500 for an 86 base with a straight body, almost new motor, Konig 17" subzeros wraped in Toyo tires, full exhaust with RB header, cracked winsheild, some interior was cracked, decent paint...um.. what else... oh yeah, i busted the trans, but it was 'scratchy' when i got it. I would pay about 500-700 for that car, bottom line
