Hello Fellow 3rd gen owners. IM ready to knab a catback for my T-REX-7, and would like input from as many owners as possible. How do you like your exhaust, what brand is it?

I've clicked for over 3 hours looking to see if this thread has been discussed already, but couldnt find it. If there has been a thread, please link it for me.

Which exhaust has the best sound?

Which exhaust has the best balance of exhaust note and power?
(bc ive heard some exhausts give quote an unbearable sound at WOT on the RX7's)

Which exhaust has most power/flow ability?

Emissions isnt a matter, bc i live in Jacksonville, FL.

If you want all out power and don't care about noise, get the HKS Titanium exhaust system.

 

i think all the single exhaust systems for the FD look and sound like ****. all of em have a 4" and larger tip, and all look like the fatcans you see on civics.

go with a Racing Beat Dual Tip or M2 Dual Tip exhaust.

I agree except for the Greddy SP..quite exhaust note at idle..nice at wot. I do hate the 5' tip though...but I like it..as a whole

Would love to have the racing beat dual tip...probably flow a little less then some of the exhaust out there..but it's very normal looking.

 

I have the Racing Beat single tip. Sounds great, doesn't look like a cannon, feels like it has a better low end. It's not very loud - nice and bassy... I often set off car alarms as I drive by, but it's much quieter than a lot of the other cat backs I've heard.

AN N1 Dual is next on my list of goodies to get. I downloaded some audio files of TTT's red car.....that convinced me!

 

I have the Racing Beat dual tip. Got it cause I did not want the coffee can look of some of the other cat backs. Exhaust sound is quiet at idle and cruising, fairly loud, but not objectionable at wot. Flow is excellent- note that your high school physics shows that you can flow more volume thru two medium pipes than thru one large one- within limits. Also- a big plus- there is a price break on the dual tip. The entire muffler is highly polished, but sells for the price of their previous painted muffler. Workmanship and fit is excellent.

 

Yeah, I have the Greddy SP, sounds pretty much like stock at idle and it's not too loud at WOT. Nice exhaust for the street.

 

Isn't the RB dual still just a single 3" pipe going into a single canister? Does the RB dual perform any better than the RB single? I would think something like the A'PEXi N1 dual may perform better than the N1 single because it's dual piping/canisters from the cat back but does the RB dual actually perform any better than the RB single? Has anyone had both and can compare?

 

the only difference between the RB single and dual are the echaust tips. the single has a 4" tip, the dual has dual 3.5" tips.

that is totaly different than the N1 dual and single. the N1 dual is actually 2 separate cannisters. the N1 single is just a single cannister.

 

While, admitedly, I haven't heard them all..My favorite that I've heard is the Blitz NUR Spec. Underrated for sure.

 

I have an HKS system. I am not sure of the name since I bought it used, but it looks like a super turbo to me. It has a oval canister, and a 4" tip.

I like the sound, it is very nice at idle, and gets loud enough at WOT. The tip is nice looking, even though it is a bit big.

I agree, the Blitz Nur Spec has got to be the best quality and best sounding for the price. It is only $300 if I recall...and it is full stainless steel.

I have the hks carbon titanium exhaust, looks very nice, same **** as the regular hiper just a titanium tip, I would recommend HKS stuff, cause they ship stuff out fast. For blitz and apexi, some people have been waiting a couple month for it.

 

I've had both a GReddy Power Extreme (PE) and a Racing Beat dual tip (RB). I really liked the way the PE sounded and it surely flowed better than the RB, but I did not like the looks. Also, the muffler can on the PE can scrape on the bottom under some circumstances (steep driveways, etc). The RB looks much, much better IMO, and is quieter, but it doesn't seem to flow as well. The newer RB dual tip (the only one available now) seems slightly louder (better sounding, IMO) and probably flows better. I would get a RB dual-tip or maybe the new M2 dual-tip.

I recommend that you go for the quietest cat back you can find and open up the rest of the exhaust system. With a downpipe and a high-flow cat or a muffled midpipe, your car will be louder than you want it to be with any muffler, so get the quietest one you can find.

Another option is to get a cat-back that you can put a silencer into (N1 Dual, etc.). However, you'll probably end up wanting the power all the time and not running the silencer, or you'll get tired of installing and removing the silencer.

Consider where you plan to run the car. Some localities are pretty tough on noise laws. Many AutoX events and some track events have noise requirements. Noise tickets and not being able to run at events sucks. For instance, Laguna Seca is really tough (90-92 dB) and I've been black flagged several times there with dp-stock_cat-PE and dp-HF_cat-RB setups. Now I have a single turbo, muffled midpipe and RB and I am afraid to go there because I figure I won't be able to run more than a session or two before getting kicked off the track. Bummer.

I love my Blitz NurSpec.

It sounds nice, low, and grumbly. Although it is a little loud it is completely bareable and not abnoxiously loud.

The entire system is full stainless steal. That is a downfall of most of the Apex'i systems. All the the apex'i systems I've seen only have stainless mufflers.

The price was great. It was $350 from summit racing. They did have to order it though. It took about 3 weeks to get to me.

You also have the option of getting the NurSpec R. Which also eliminates your cat. If your get the NurSpec R you also get a silencer.

It is a single 4.5" tip canister style which I like, but I know there are many on the forum who don't like the single tip look. But hey, whatever wiggles your noodle.

 

I just wanted to say thanks a million for all of the responses. I've narrowed my choices to the Blitz Nür Spec, and the GReddy P.E.

By chance, do any of you have a link to a sound byte of either exhaust from Idle to WOT? I was able to find sound clips of both on a Supra TT, but we all know the 7's has a distinctive sound throughout the revband.

What about the hks carbon fiber/titanium tip?

 

I just HKS Carbon Fiber Hiper from Jason a month ago, awesome quality and I love I love the carbonfiber muffler and titanium sprayed tip! Sounds awesome with my single turbo! I have a Greddy SP Exhaust only 4 months old if anyone is interested.

 

You should think about the GReddy SP too... it sounds awesome I think. I personally do not think that I have heard a better sounding exhaust on an FD. Not just because I have it either, I just do not like that really ricey sound that every other exhaust I have heard has sounded like. Especially the Apex cat back. Sounds like a weed eater. ....... But if you do not like the huge tip coming out of the back then it is definitely not for you, but it grows on ya.

 

The Blitz is my 4th choice, probably only because its one peice. The HKS carbon/titanium is my 3rd because its just a hiper with carbon fiber over the steel can and a torched tip...seems just for looks. I dont know anything about the all titanium racing version but its like $1,200...ouch.

So I'm stuck probably between the Greddy PE (3.5" piping) and Apexi GT (3.74" piping).

I have the touring model and want to keep it quiet. I know the Apexi can be loud, my friends auto is load with it. The Greddy is mild steel piping and the Apexi is stainless. So i'm thinking the Apexi has the most flow. I had a canon tip on my Honda CRX and beleive that is what helped to get it stolen.

Anyone running the Apexi dual muffler N1? That might be a good sleeper look.

 

if you want the sleeper look, cant go wrong with an M2 or Racing Beat dual tip.

i personally think all the cannister exhaust systems look like **** and are obnoxiously loud. that includes all of the Apex systems, all HKS, and the GReddy PE. those all sound and look like **** with their huge *** tips. (well, the N1 dual looks ok, but it is loud as ****). but on the bright side...you will get compliments from the riceboyz!

it seems like not that many people like the Apex products, but I have the Apex GT and yeah it is loud, but it flows really well and the whole system is stainless. If it is too loud for you, just buy the silencer. I had the Greddy PE on my last FD and it scraped the driveway all the time.....
