FD3S VIN DECODING - Dealer options

Hi Rotary fans
I live in Australia and just bought an FD3S from Japan. A 1999 RS model and luckily it has Mazdaspeed seats and THE WHOPPING BOSE stereo.

Is there any way I can find out if these were optioned when bought buy the original owner? I have read that the member "Akagis_white_comet" can decode from the VIN number. Is he still around? and does that decoding include dealer options like the Mazdaspeed seats?

Thanks all )

Brap brap brap.....

Mazdaspeed was an independent company that was acquired by Mazda. There were separate Mazdaspeed brochures/catalogues, but, at somepoint, Mazdaspeed parts lists were incorporated in some Mazda sales brochures directly.

For purposes of originalty for "collector car" licence plate status, locally, we have used Mazdaspeed brochures to argue that Mazdasppeed parts qualify as OEM.for our cars.

In 1999, Type RS was the top of the line model. Next version of the Type RZ did not come out until October, 2000.

1999 Type RS had some precursor parts to the Spirit R (as did the 2000 Type RZ).

Please be aware that from Version 4 onward Mazda changed the mounting order of the coils. People unaware of this might hook up the coils to the spark plugs in the wrong order or hook up the coil harness to the wrong coils. The result is the plugs will fire out of order and cause detination at the wrong position of the rotor faces.

Any time anyone works on your car in around the plugs and coils, be wary they have hooked things up incorrectly.

People in Australia should be more aware of this given the large number of S7 and S8 cars in circulation there.

But even in Japan, mechanics often make the mistake of hooking things up wrong.
