Help with JDM vin PLEASE!!

I am in the US and have purchased a JDM Lancer and I was wondering if anyone could help me with decoding the vin. What i am really interested is if you know if there is a way to tell the yfear from the 11 digit vin number. Any information would be greatly appreciated.
thank you so much
tim

should have details written on the sticker when you open the drivers door.

There is a way to decode the vin but i would only be guessing for your lancer. For my FD the first 3 digits after are for the model.

You need to provide more information if you want an answer. What year is the car supposed to be? Does the serial number start with CT9A(EVO VII~IX), CP9A(EVO V~6.5) or CN9A (EVO IV). If you have a the deregistered Japanese title when can give you the year make with ease or you could just post some pics of the car.

The Japanese system is based on that of the Emperor. Currently, we are in "Heisei 20." This is the 20th year of the current Emperor. Heisei means "peace forming." The government of Japan decides the name for the administration. If anything on the vehicle states (for example) H5, it would be the fifth year of the current administration, which would be 1993.
