Green hornet down for the count

Well,

Ebisu was a lot of fun.... until the 5 run of the day anyways. I had run three 20 minute sets, and one 15 minute set when I started on my fifth set of the day. 4 laps in I popped my apex seal on one of the rotors, not sure yet as I have not towed her back home....

Stats were 1:10:17 on ebisu west, that was at 1.4 bar of boost with a local air temp of 20 degrees centigrade. air intake temps were a reasonable 45c with max knock of 25 but average knock was about 15.

AFR's were a steady 11.2 at 1.1 bar and tapering down to 11.0 at 1.4 bar I was actually datalogging when she let loose and it was intersting reading the logs on the way home boost dropped immediately when the seals let go, knock events climbed "after" the seals went, and egt's went bananas.

managed to get her in the pits without a tow truck.

Not a bad day......what you say? not a bad day? well one of my friends with a boobi ru (WRX, TD05 swap, injectors, reflash yad yada yada) managed a 1:08:98 and then slid his car sideways into the safety pads taking out both drivers side doors, front fneder, bumper and damaged the lower arms on the front and the rear axles. so i figured he had a worse day then me...... Meh I gotta couple of spare engines......

Just wondering why such low timing for 1.4bar?

I run double that at 2 bar.

I never mentioned timing, just my afr's

Chuck, are you talking about 2 bar absolute, or 2 bar on the boost gauge? I am running 1.4 bar on the guage, or 2.4 bar absolute.

1.4 bar, AFR's 11.5 @ 1 bar tapering to 11.0 at 1.4 bar
timing 8 degrees at 1.4

from your other post.

I run more then 16 deg at 30psi of boost. 10 deg of split. I know of others running more then I.

Are you still running wastespark?

Oh you were looking at the other post, yeah I am still running wasted spark, as this is all kinda low budget (snickers) actually I am not that good with wireing from scratch, so I kept the stock system as it required no extensive rewiriing or calculating for different coils etc.

do you think that this might have casued the problem?

Stock porting.....I need to be able to pass smog and cannot afford to have an "inspection only" engine I currently have 2 spares sitting, but would prefer to rebuild them prior to dropping them in, and I still need to get the FD inspected and tagged so I got something to drive in the meantime.

Just a thought,

Try running 15 deg advance with a 10 deg split. Even if you run over 1.4 bar.
Try getting the afr in the high 10s for anything after 1 bar. 10.8/10.9 afrs
See if your egts are lower. Should be 1600f or lower in the manifold.

Also, how much premix are you running and what type? When you take your motor apart, check to see how much oil film in on your rotor housings. The good rotor/housing. Maybe not enough premix?? You sould feel oil on the housing like you do on a piston wall, or very simular.

SL7,

is that 15 degrees before top dead center you are recommending? just trying to clarify I have always run according to the PFC a +8 degrees. ( 3years and some change on this motor) with good power, 25 and below on the knock (usually on decel), and quick boost response.
