Wankel and RC maniacs
Since Magnus proposed this: here we go...
Let's see some RC stuff in here!
BTW, Magnus: I'm not sure about the drive-shaft lenght, I'll check that tomrrow. But it's 1/10, with FD Veilside body.
Try to see if I can post a pic...

This is my Veilside RX7, on top of my Mariah RX7.
Note the fact that the car (RC one) was not really complete yet, as the rear wing isn't installed. It is by now.
Underneath is a pic of my car as it was in June.
An old man drove into it in September, so it's a little different now. See "transplant update" for that. (new pics)
Also on the photo is the blue RX7 of my father, on the driveway. It's still engineless, and will get my 12A once I have my 13B in the car. The blue car was bought by me as an unfinished restauration project. I wanted a SA, but saw that I didn't have th time to finish either, so my father bought it. The car has all new rubbers, even all the bushings are new. Absolutely rust free (all rust removed, and resprayed after that). Thsi car should be really nice when we get it completed...

I went racing last weekend, and as useual i didnt win. I guess i gotta practice some more to keep up with all the young punks
Here is my excuses:
and not to forget that my car wasnt dialed in, forgot my Hudy set-up board so i had to use caliper and rulers to straighten it up
But anyway it was an ok day at the track, we had fun plus that one of the young kids has a REALLY pretty mom

Hey!
This is cool, where did you get the Rx7 body?
I think I have some 1/10 chassis somewhere...
I started thingking about this OS rotary..
Cant be that difficult to make a new exshaft and modify an endplate to make it a two rotor?!?
That would be something.. but then again.. they are expensive...
Well guys seems like we shold do a meet with our Rx7's and rc cars and when we start getting tired of racing the big cars we can continue with the smaller...

Sounds great, only I'm not very good in RC racing... I only have the car for a while, and have driven it for no more then maybe 2 hours alltogether. The weather's always bad, and then I don't go out. And I can't get the motor to run properly either. It always dies on me. I got it to a proffesional shop (very good shop, won plenty of tittles, not just some toy-store selling RC)to have it setup properly, but that only helped for a short time...
Anyway, that body is a regular item on ebay. But should also be available in good shops. Made by Yokomo, this is the site:
http://www.yokomousa.com/bodies/index.html
I've also seen a normal FD body, and an FC one, but don't know the makers. HPI has one in 1/18, but those were 1/10. Pim vd Burgt, in Holland, has a (unpainted) SA/FB WIDEBODY (!!!) in 1/10, in a showcase. But doesn't sell... I need that one... Actually a Mariah mode one wouldreally be cool, don't you think?
As for the OS... I think it would be possible to make a 2 (or more) rotor engine, if someone can make an excentric shaft. Just a little pricy...

Those small engines are ahdr to tune.. or should I say run..
They usually suffer from overheating as the body don't let air through.
Hmm.. maybe we should pay Pim a visit.. you talk to him and I'll fix the body..
You know a mold is not very hadr to do.. and there are plenty of vaccumforming companies around here.. what scale is it?? I'm pretty sure we could sell a few!
I'm getting more and more thoughts about that twin rotor OS... should find a few of them relly cheap..
BTW.. I think I've seen a bigger HP rotary..

Well.. I think we'd have to use a split exshaft. We probably need the bearing in the centerplate..
If you had two of them and used one sideplate as middelplate (will have to be machined) and a new exshaft.. well .. hey we need a sponsor!!!
As far as I know there are no apexseals or sideseals in them , I wounder if there is any hard surface on the sideplates..
Now I REALLY need to go to my friend and have a look....

OK, I'll ask him, but won't be for tomorrow. Four rotor wouldn't be more difficult then a 2 rotor, just more expensive... Sideplates can't be very difficult, it's a PP.
Why split shaft on a two rotor?
Anyway, why don't you just visit and we see what we can do...

I dont think the exshaft will hold without it.
It's not very big in size...

A decent CNc lathe should be able to make an eccentric shaft no problems ... get me the Dimensions and I can knock up a solid model in no time
I work for Alstom modelling and drawing turbine parts so I'm pretty familiar with CAD ( I spend near 6 hours a day on it! )

Mean a big one or a RC one? Or both? Sounds promising... Also, on the RC topic: couldn't we make the centersidehousing(s) from solid steel or something? They are rather simple: no ports or waterjackets or anything. Just a hole in the middle for the E-shaft.
So, like buying 1 OS, 1,2 or 3 replacement rotors, having the e-shaft cnc'd, and the centerhousings to (for correctness). And the bearings and carbs we had to buy to... But what will we mount it in?

both! ... (in theory) you just need a bigger lathe
an eccentric shaft is dead easy compared to a crank shaft ... no forgings or anything to worry about, just a rolled bar big enough to get the eccentrics in and start machining ... I think the mazda ones have fancy blends where the eccentrics meet the shaft, might be a problem on a full size engine but I bet the model versions are much simpler and should be a doddle to machine for any half decent machine shop

Hey Magnus were are you??? Don't you see it's getting intresting? Since I found a CAD designer, and might be able to find a shop to do the job cheap, I think it's your turn now. So go find a sponsor :-)

i got ten (10) of those SA/FB bodies here. yes the wide one. i ain't bullshitting, some shop here in NL had them and i bought the last ones (10 of them with some spoilers and decals)...
Hey!
I would really like one...
Do you have any idea who made them in the first place?
