OMG my car took a crap.....

Ok so what I'm looking for here is a straight answer...please don't tell me to search....

So I start my car this morning after it was running fine last night and it starts, but it sounds like it's only running on 1 rotor. It's done this twice before...once after a 3 hr drive to Mireck's house and after idling for a little while the other rotor came back and it was fine. Then again after the car sat for a month and a half while I was in the states...again idled for a little while and it was fine. So today it never did even out. It did get a little better so I decided to drive it to the shop and see what was going on. When I got to the shop my friend wasn't there so I started the car up again and it was a little more rough this time. I didn't push it at all due to the fact I wasn't sure what was going on, but it seemed to run fine at normal driving speed. At that point I knew I needed to take it home untill I could get it looked at so on the way home I make a short stop at a bakery down the street and when I came out it wouldn't start at all. As a side note I have been running my gas down so I could add some fuel system cleaner so the tank was low, however, it was still just above the double hash marks on the bottom. I decided the maybe it was just to low to get any pick up so I put a couple of liters of gas in it and got it to start, but it was super rough, spewing white smoke out and the coolant buzzer started going off. It has never run hot and today the temp guage was reading the same level that it always does...nothing out of the norm. I limped it home and shut it off and noticed that there was still a trace of white smoke comming out of one of the pipes and there was a little water sitting in exhaust tips even though it's completely dry and I had gone thru no puddles. The coolant level in the run off tank was normal and I haven't checked the rad level yet, but the engine temp was still nothing out of the norm.

Please tell me that my engine didn't just take a dump on me..........

hard to judge from a desk, but when your engine would have gone bad, it would mostly be a constant problem, not a problem that goes away and come back.
A compression test should be a good help here, even if it doesn't say everything, it can be a bit reassuring in this matter.
Try to find out if it get's spark and fuel, before fearing the worst.
Water at the end of the exhaust isn't always a bad sign: due to condensation you can have this. It's a bit worrying that the coolant sensor goes off though. Maybe try taking it to a shop for a pressure check of the cooling system?

- check your spark plugs (pull them out and see whats on them, compare fronts to rears)
- if coolant level light came on and level in radiator is low, u might have blown water seal/broken water passage in iron (very common on front irons on S4 FC's)

Ok....The coolant level was a little low..I could still see it at the top of the fins, but it was low. I took the trailing plug out from the rear rotor and it had what I believe to be water and a bunch of oil on it. Sooooo...anyone have a rebuilt S5 13BT with the harness and ECU layin' around your shop?????

your car is S4, you dont want to start messing with S4 TO S5 swap, even if you would find complete package (engine with all manifolds/injectors/tps etc.. and ECU)
its not bolt-on issue to run S5 ECU/Engine in S4 car..search for posts from my buddy Luciu$ if you want to do it, but you would be better of finding just S4 block or rebuilding engine

Sorry, sounds a lot like you got a bunch of carbon build up and then cracked an O-ring. Either buy a direct replacment or sell the car (this from a guy who is just finishing a 3 year project).

LOL.....At this point I just want to ball up in the corner and cry......

This is what I'm goin to try and do.....I'm looking at a car right now and if every thing is up to my expectations I will get it and be done with this problem. However, in order to recoup my losses I will have to part out my broken 7 only keeping whatever I can use as a spare. If that doesn't work out then, thanks to Higgi, I have another option to pursue. Either way I will have another RX 7...period.

I am so sad right now ....I feel like some ******* has just shot my dog..... I just can't imagine owning any other kind of car......Even with all the inherent problems that rotaries face.....The RX 7 is the car I have wanted for many years now and I have yet to find a car that is more fun to drive (that doesn't cost 14 Kazillion dollars...). CRAP.....

I would like to have a moment of silence for my fallen beauty................

1 very sad RX 7 owner,
K.Ron

Screw that crap just get a soft seal set and lets yank that motor out. Lets open it up, reclearance everything and rebuild. Whats so hard about that? If not how much do you want for the short block, tranny and driveshaft? I'll even come down and remove it myself.

I'm guessing waterseals,

rebuild the engine, compression was nice the last time we looked, so it could be a option to just rebuild the current engine.

LOL! Ok...a little update.....Sadly my car is still dead , however, some good must come from the bad right? So the car I'm looking at right now is looking really good. I will find out later this weekend if I'm actually going to buy it or not . If this does happen all my problems will be fixed and life will rotor on!!! If not then the rebuild my engine party will be in full effect. Hell...even if I do get the new car I am going to keep my broken motor and a few other things, rebuild the motor and sell everything else. One way or the other I will continue with this rotary lifestyle!!!!
