Of course - you should bring the RX-7 over here....if you don´t you will probably kick yourself for the rest of your life...
Where else would you get a chance to legaly drive it flat out ?
Get good speed ratet tires (at least for your anticipated top speed) and join the fun.
There used to be an excelent car show at Vogelweh in K-Town - but since the old organiser went back to the states it has not really been the same..

Hi all,
I'm a member of the dutch RX-7 club and coming april 2009 i'm organising a meet and tour for the club in the most southern part of holland. It will be the first tour of the club for the new season.
I believe K-ronic was there back in 2006? I still have the pictures from that day: http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Album=FFJQBPVE
This is my FC na from 1988:

Would there be any rx-7 fans stationed in Germany be interested in driving with us? Then you have to think of starting in Maastricht, a beautifull drive through parts of Limburg and Belgian Limburg, at the end getting a bite to eat, talk and make some fun. I still have to find out the exact date (preferably on a saturday because of the drive home) but we have a meeting this month to put it all on paper.
Btw All the best rotary wishes for the new year
!

One of the things I will never forget about that meeting is when the group of cars I was with missed a turn on the way to the photo shoot and when we came to the next intersection EVERYONE did a big, nasty, tire burning 180 to go back the way we came to make the turn we missed. LOL, the people in that little town stood in amazement when all those rotarys started smoking the tires!!!!! The people that didn't miss the turn said they could hear us from several blocks away, LOL!!!!
Seriously though, if you are in Europe when they have this meeting and you don't go, you will be missing out on LOTS of fun!!!!!
Edit: YAY! There are some pictures of my mother and me with Mireck and Wendy, as well as, my old red TII in that album!!!!!
Can't get better criticism then this heheh
Thanx!
I have to be honest, but the main part of that meet was organised by another RX-owner.....i tried to help him where ever i could......this year it's my turn.
I talked a while with you and your mom (sorry to say i forgot your name
) and i believe this was your car on the left with german plates?

Too bad you have to go back, hope you had a pleasant stay in europe.
We had about 35 RX-7'ns that day. I don't think i will get that same number together in april but i hope for 20. Very glad the fuel prices dropped, that's the reason i went to less meetings in 2008.
Perhaps better to open a new topic?

Yup, that's my old red TII! I didn't get a chance to clean it before we drove up there so I was busy trying to make it look good before we left for our drive! My name is Eric, BTW. Good luck with this years meeting. I'm sure it will be just a fun as the one in '06!!!!
Yes, we will make this year the 4. international RX-7 & rotary event at Klagenfurt.
I think it will be at 14.-16. August 2009.

sorry to bump an old thread but im going to spangdahlem air base and i have a 84 12'a gsl. its by no means perfect and has its fair share of problems. SHould i just sell it here and get something else in germany due to the inspection??
Other then that might be cheaper to buy one over there then shipping it but since Im not in the millitary I would not know what exeptions your are granted.
They have recently changed some of the regulations for our inspections. It is becomming increasingly difficult to pass with modded cars.
If your exhaust is loud then you better plan on shipping a stock exhaust with you in your household goods. And it better not leak AT ALL IN THE SLIGHTEST LITTLE BIT. I passed with an RB Rev TII system just recently, but I honestly think that I got lucky because I think they mistook my presilencer for a cat and didn't notice that most of the system is 3" and obviously not stock. You can bring your aftermarket one with you also and put it back on after inspection. You can get a ticket for it, but unless your just a total moron or your exhaust sounds like God screaming at you, this is very unlikely.
If you have any oil leaks I suggest you fix them before you bring it here and degrease the living **** out of your engine while you still can (legally).
If you have ANY tint up to and including a small visor tint, scrape it off.
If your car has any rust don't even bother to bring it for 2 reasons...
1.) It will be a bitch to get it passed without fixing it and in some cases not possible at all to pass it depending on where it's located and...
2.) Germany will eat your car. This place is almost as bad as Okinawa when it comes to the elements (salt on the roads in Germanys case) causing rust to form on your otherwise rust free car.
If you have aftermarket fog lamps take them off before you go through inspection (you can put them back on after inspection)....don't ask me why this is illegal because it makes absolutly no sense to me what-so-ever....
Make sure ALL of your lights, your horn, and your windshield wipers work. It's apparently ok if they [windshield wipers] don't zero out because mine don't and they passed it. Also make sure your headlights are aligned correctly.
Make sure all 4 of your brakes (and your e-brake) are in GOOD working order. They can tell if just one of them is failing.
Make sure you have sufficient tread on your tires and that they are in good shape. As far as this is concerned, it is in your own best intrest because autobahn speeds are MUCH higher than any stateside highways. I strongly suggest you buy 100 MPH+ rated tires because you will go over 100 MPH often.....I do, at the very least, twice a day coming to and from work. Blowing a tire at 100+ MPH is nothing to mess around with...
You will need a first aid kit and a warning triangle. Don't get these in the states because it will most likely be the wrong one. Wait till you get here and then get one that has a safety vest and emergency blanket in it.
Make sure you have your spare and that it has air in it. I wouldn't roll up to inspection with a bunch of crap in your trunk either because you will have to physically show them the spare.
There are other things, but those seem to be the most important. Now when you go to register it most likely you will have to go to Kapaun to do that. If you are AT ALL unsure if you will pass or not then get your temp tags and try like hell to get someone to show you where Baumholder is and actually get the car inspected there. I cannot speak from personal experience, but from what I understand they are the most lenient. You can also go to Ramstein to get it inspected. It is closer (than Baumholder) and they (for the most part) aren't as bad as the guys at Kapaun. The guys at Kapaun are friggin' inspection ****'s so don't go there unless you absolutly have to.
If you do decide to bring it here and you can afford it....stock up on misc. parts (gaskets, bearings, brake pads, etc.) because the Euro friggin' sucks horribly bad right now and the less you have to deal with German dealerships the happier you will be.....TRUST ME. It's also a good idea to get a friend or family member set up that can ship you misc. stuff you might need for the 7 because it can be difficult to find stuff here sometimes.
Weither you bring it or not if you ever want to talk rotary then come up to the Landstuhl Auto Skills Center on the weekends and ask for Eric. I'll be the guy with all the Mazda patches on my work shirt...
Oh....I almost forgot...Don't be afraid to post up in our car club thread stickied to the top of this forum. It doesn't get used much because we have our own web site now, but I check it frequently and most of the local 7 owners pop in there from time to time.

BTW Germany was the only place where I have wound out a TII in fifth gear. Those memories along with blasting through the mountains around Lanstul with Irgen, Kron and even Fabien or whatever his name was were some of the fondest I have. God the townships we roared through doing burnouts while leaving gas stations making children scream and small pets void their bowels. Those were the best ones
