in order to import or register an FD into the UK does it have to be older than 10 years? e.g. would it be impossble to get a 2001 model in? thanks.

At the moment, no you can't, they need to be 10 years or older to get avoid the ESVA thing, or have a model report available - there isn't one for the FD AFAIK.

I'm pretty sure you can bring it into the country you will need an SVA test done on it but its not on the ABI insurance register so insurance might be a little difficult

heres a link to the ABI's register, although there are some insurance companies that will insure it as there are quite a few 99-2001 cars over here in the UK

you are able to register it, as long as it is imported from an EU country with EU license plates/registring as this is EU law.

You can yes. My friend has a 02 spirit r & a 99 for a DD. However...Its best to buy one that has allready been improted as if you do it off your own back and it gets refused then your stuck with a car you cant drive.

Thats not true. They want you to believe that its not possible, however EU law goes above UK law and therefore they must register it. Im not talking about requirements for exhaust noise etc. this is covered by UK automotive rules.

importing

Yes you can,But it is expensive,go for a 99 model its much cheaper,No sva test. if you ship a 2001 model you have to rip out the remote locking alarm and change it to a E U spec system b4 you get a sva,and whatever else you need for the sva.do a google search or check out auto terminal web site for info.

surely it would need to be a 98 model or very early 99 model as the car has to be 10 years old to avoid sva?

Correct, early 99,production would of started early december for 99 models so there are quite a lot of early 99 mods,or get a late 99 and sva it later in the year.Giving you time do mod it .
