Back in business

Well today was quite the day... expected to help AF1 out with his engine, but the jackass never picked up the phone So me and Army of one got to work on my car...
First off didnt expect an 8 hour ordeal on my car, at all. Oh its the throw out bearing? 2 hours no prob... Let me just say today was my lucky day. Turns out it was not my throw out bearing, just a whole lotta slop in the tranny, ALOT. And this was causing it to become increasingly hard to shift and sounded like crap. So then Army of one ran into a guy at the hobby shop that had a spare tranny layin not but 15 miles from base. Picked it up threw that bitch in, and sorted out some of the other minor bugs we could.
Sooo the point of the story? Line em up guys im ready to race!

Oh and AF1 hope you injoy your slow *** rental

Ahhh one more thing the new tranny... Shifts like a dream, 200% better than before. And i was so happy speeding home that i killed one Z28, and one fox body mustang! MMmmmm Hahahaha

Good to hear Grease...Sorry I didn't call after I got off work. We had a stupid busy night. And it looks like I won't have a day off till Thur. and Fri. Btw, that Z28.....was it that white one that hillybilly cat was drivin? I probably could have beat that thing in my mom's Pacifica, lol!!! Also, did you ever figure out what was goin on with your headlight? Sorry I coldn't offer any help on that. It looked kinda racey all one eyed and **** tho, lol! Hey, since your off today (Sun.) you wanna hook up during the day and cruise around? I gotta be at work at 3, but I should be up around 10 or so. If you don't post anything here in the morning I'll give you a call when I get up and around and see whats goin on.

Cool. Thanks. Right now I gotta practice up for the 20th. I'll be doing my R/T practice so I can be mentally prepared to break some peoples hearts at Bitburg.

Don't get in too much of a hurry over that Center plate though. The $60 in fuel kinda broke me for this month. But I can definitely do it next month.

It's the drift challange over in CZ. I won't be able to make it either btw Higgi. I have to go to Holland the week after that to meet Mireck and pick up my fenders so money and time will be a little short for me. Plus I have to get a strut tower bar for the front because she's tryin to lean out in the corners to much. New struts probably wouldn't hurt either. Sorry I can't make it.

Owch!!! Ok..so let's think this thru..You put in a new tranny and it was working fine. You also have a new clutch? Or did you say that you were waiting on your new clutch? And this may be a stupid question, but you checked your fluid levels in the tranny right? No big oil spots in your parking spot and such right? What does it do when you try to shift into those gears? Does it grind or does it just feel like their locked out? I had a problem with mine one time about 3 days after I got it. I was sitting at a stop light and when it turned green it would not go into 1st at all. I finally forced it into gear and I haven't had that problem since. I did change a few vacuume hoses soon after that as well, but I'm not sure if that had anything to do with it. Could it maybe be in the shift linkage? Like somethings bent and won't go into those gears because of it? I found this (you may have it already) http://www.teamfc3s.org/faq/FAQ.html ....and there is a section that talks about shift lever bushings. That is most likely not the problem, but it might be compounding another problem. That link is good for alot of different little things as well. Anyway I probably wasn't much help, but just to let you know I have the next 4 days off and I will definately volunteer my help in anyway I can. On a side note I talked to a local that works in the subway at the NS shoppette and he gave me the low down on the ATU spot on B40. I'm supposed to hook up with him Sat. night and go check it out. He's the cat that drives that light blue S2000 btw. Hopefully we can get you tranny actin' right by the weekend.

Ok.. I also found this https://www.rx7club.com/archive/inde...-17-p-359.html ...its actually from these forums, but it's a little easier to search thru (if you got about 5 hours.....) Ther might be something worth while in there.

have you replaced pilot bearing when you had your tranny out? that might be causing trouble you are describing

Haha no... it looked good though, pretty much all clutch compents looked real good... the gears just seemed to be "locked out" Like it starts to slide in then hits a wall for 1,3 and 5... Really weird.

Well I checked the pilot bearing myself and I know that it was in good shape. we even greased it. The only thing I found on the transmission you gave me was a worn 3rd gear synchro. There was also gravel inside the transmission. Yes I said gravel, the reason I know this is because normally broken gears look like rocks in the pan but I cleaned them up and they were rocks!! I was able to smash them with the hammer.

I would seriously look into borrowing someones stock shifter assembly and putting it in to prove the shorshifters worth.

The next thing I would have to ckeck would be the lever lockout checkballs on the tranny. I'll look into this and get back with you Josh.

Yea Grease that won't be a problem, but I'm actually leaving for Holland in about 30 to 45 min. and I won't be back till sometime on Sunday. If I get back early enough I give you a call and we'll pull something together, otherwise I will be at work on Monday from 15:00 till 23:30 so maybe you could do it before I go to work or while I'm at work (as long as my car is operable by the time I get off cuz I don't like to stay there any longer than I have to, lol !!!!!). Hopefully I will be back Sun. with my new fenders from Mireck!!!!!!! Btw, do you have a spare oil seal for you differential layin' around. When I changed my oil the other day I gave it a once over while it was on the lift and my diff. is definately leaking. If not I'm gonna order one from Mazdatrix so let me know about that. Anyway I'll call you on Sun. and let you know what's up with when we can get together to get you my shifter.

We are running our short shift kits in our cars, no issues. You would have worn out synchros on car with stock shifter after all these years of abuse, more likely if ppl are wearing out clutches and not changing them etc.....Shortshifter in this case would not help situation of course, as it requires more precise and faster work with clutch and clutch has to be working perfectly.
