Arrow Wolf 3d Injector/Idle question

Does the Wolf 3d fire both primary and secondary injectors even at idle?

And does it do this by staging the secondaries to open less?

Staged injection means that the primary injectors handle fueling up to and including a certain point where the secondary injectors ALSO provide fueling. When the secondary injectors come in, you'll usually see the primary injector's pulsewidth scaled back a whole bunch to allow the secondaries to do their thing. Without spending a lot of time explaining the finer points, I'll just answer your question by stating this:

Though I know nothing specifically about the Wolf EFI systems, I'd put money on them NOT running the secondary injectors at idle.

The Wolf3D 4.0 has 5 injector bank outputs. Four of them are primary outputs which can be individually trimmed (SFI), and the 5th one is called the "staged injector" output. The staged injector output acts like a primary injector on 5 and 10-cylinder engines, but it can be used as a secondary injector on other engines. The Wolf fires the secondary injector output only in batch-fire mode, and the pulsewidth is set as a percentage of the primary injectors. How you set the secondary injector is up to you. It can be set at 100% so it injects along with the primary injectors, or you can lower the percentage and it will not come on until it meets its minimum pulsewidth. Therefore, the Wolf can fire the staged injectors at idle, or it can have them gradually inject when the primaries reach a higher output.

BTW, for the newbies, each injector output can run multiple fuel injectors, depending on their impedance. This goes for all EMS units, not just the Wolf.

The old Wolf3D 3.0 manual has some injector diagrams which may help:

The Wolf 3D will fire the secondary injectors at idle if the aux staging percent tells it to.

In other words, if you set your aux injection staging percent is 98, you'll get secondary injection all the time, if it's at 0, you won't get any secondary injection at all.

So, the procedure in the manual for setting aux injection staging percent allows you to get your idle running without the secondaries, yet use the secondaries for higher loads. Unfortunately, it's not entirely clear how to identify at any given load point how much additional fuel is being added. On a good note, I don't think it really matters, just so long as you're able to get good idle quality.

That makes sense. Right now my staging is at 84%.
Could be the reason my idle is always kind of buggered...so I figure I might reduce it.

But then again, I'm seeing 83% duty cycle at full boost with 720/1600 injectors, which is strange as well. (SX Fuel pump , running 14 psi). Seems kind of high, so I can't really reduce the staging...

I'm

Is 14psi your boost or fuel pressure? You should be running around 40-45 psi of fuel pressure.

Also, which version of the Wolf are you running?

Sorry. I was a bit vague there:

-I'm running 14psi of boost (KKK turbo).
-Fuel pressure is an almost constant 43 psi
-Wolf3d Version 3.1

Well, it sounds like everything should be working. Sorry, but I'm not much of a troubleshooter. One of our other forum members, 13B Ace, was running his Wolf V3 with 1600 primaries and secondaries, so you may want to check with him for tips.

Have you considered upgrading to the new 4.0 Wolf? You may want to contact your dealer to see if there is a buy-back program for the 3.1 versions.
