Question Tired of those backfires.. :(

I have the PFS PMS in my car, but since I have changed my motor in 2001, the car runs great and don't smoke, but just make a lot of backfires.. A LOT! Even if the car is hot, it makes some backfires like, just in releasing the accelerator, POW POW!

Do anybody here knows a little bit about the Peter Farrell ECU and can explain me why my car is backfiring like that...

Thanks in advance.

Get it dyno tuned, or tune with a wideband o2 sensor on the street.

Take out some fuel at idle and the low rpm ranges, under light and medium load and it will help it out. But do this ONLY after you have accurately measured your air/fuel ratio.

like the_saint said - you are just running too rich. post your mods and maps. also check wade L.'s site. you shouldn't have any backfiring if you have a stock cat or highflow.

Don't know if this will help, but my chronic backfiring with occasional machine-gun popping was caused by a leaky exhaust manifold gasket.
I'm running a DP and cat-back only.

Not cheap. there's two and both should ne replaced together.
N3A1-13-461 qty 2 80 bucks each. A specialist would be able to tell if one was leaking. All the time I thought my car was running rich, but finally the gasket eroded to the point the motor buzzed with a leak noise consistently.
