Why are there so many different PC manufacturers out there?
Why are there so many different motherboard manufacturers out there?
Why are there so many different hard drive manufacturers out there?
Why are there so many different digital camera manufacturers out there?
Why are there so many different automobile manufacturers out there?

It can be...

Haltech, Microtech use Motorola processors.
Microtech and Autronic use Intel processors.
Just like PC versus Mac.

I think that's what it was - I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong.

Features, some HD's come with Cache, some spin faster... It's all about the features, and what you need... if you're not doing Feature Film work will a terrabyte of hd space give you any increase in performance ?? No... so why buy a haltech, if all you want is to controll boost...
On the other hand, if you know you might want to go into feature films down the road and have the cash now for a terrabyte (haltech) go for it, it'll just make things easier down the road....

The Only Problem with any ECU upgrade is a relatively steep learning curve... Remember when you sat down at your first Computer, and you were like, what do I do !?? What is the command to look at files.. what are directories !?? Etc... Same with an ecu...

i get it now. So what's the most common one that will do most jobs for an affordable price? Any advantages over another?

Thanks

Now that is the million dollar question, right?
I keep telling people to find a brand where you can get local support for.
Do a search for my name and "haltech", and you'll see all my reponses.

I second that, once you have an ECU or two that you're interested, find support for it locally, especially if you're uncomfortable with tuning it yourself...
Sometimes you can talk to your local shop and see, when a tuner will stop bye... since they usually get flown out to remote locations when enough cars can split the cost of the ticket....

Wow, that's the truth. Much like RETed, I encourage people to get an EMS with local support because of this, but for some reason many people think that they will automatically figure it out because they have several years of experience tuning carbureted V-8's, or they think that a wideband O2 or EGT meter is going to make tuning a snap. It isn't until after they sit down with their newly-purchased EMS that they realize that they are in trouble, lol.

I think it is best to let the tuner choose the hardware. Contrary to popular belief, this is usually the method of the professional racers. For some reason the internet forums encourage people to perform extremely advanced maintenance on thier own, which I think is plain silly. I have TWO tuners help me with all of my automotive engine tuning, and although this may be hard to believe given my meek behavior on this forum (lol), but I also bother the EMS representatives with questions to the point that I think they want to strangle me.

Funny. Know I understand some people and their "stupid" intel inside stickers on their rides.
