RX7 ECU Newbie Looking For Advice
RX7 ECU Newbie Looking For Advice
First a little backgroud:
I'm prepping a E Production SCCA 2nd Gen, and I'm considering my options on fuel delivery. Per the rules, the car has to be NA. I have to stay with stock Fuel Injection or an aftermarket carb. The ECU is up for grabs. I can streetport the motor, and exhaust is open (I can run what I want, as long as it exits behind the driver and has a muffler). Ignition control is also open.
I've already stripped the car down to a bare shell, so I'm starting with a clean slate.
I've dealt with aftermarket ECUs on a Miata before, and have no problems with installing / programming an ECU, including building a new harness if needed.
Here's my question:
If you had to pick a standalone ECU, which would you pick and why? What are the pro's and con's? I'm looking for something reliable, and not overly costly (I'm not going to sink 10K on an ECU!). I'd like something that's not going to take 40 hours to get the car up and running. I know its going to take a while to get to get the final tuning completed, but I don't want to have a headache or blow up an engine before the car's running.
Please don't turn this into a flame war - keep it real!!!

You would probably want something with a lot of load bands, over-run fuel cut, and good on-board datalogging. The Motec M4 with the 3D mapping option, or the Motec M4 Clubman would probably be your best bet. The new AEM Race and Electromotive TECIII also look promising.
