Remapped ECU

Apparently, a big thing to do in japan is have a tuner remap your stock ecu to compensate for mods, as opposed to going standalone... Has anyone had any experience with this? Or, has anyone heard any positives/negatives?

There are people who are trying, but I am not aware of anyone stateside who has figured out how to manipulate the stock ECU. Its like Neo trying to get inside the matrix.

actually, go to www.teamfc3s.org , and go to turbo cars... Member Henrik has cracked the code, and already has quite a few mods completed, such as fuel cut, cold start, etc, and is working on manipulating when the secondaries come on. I was talking more along the lines of Knightsports, corksport, RE amemiya ECU mods.

The Pettit/M2/GForce ECUs are remapped stockers for the FD. Was this a generic question (I notice the picture of the 2nd gen, which is why I asked). They have a couple base maps though, they don't custom tune them, in general. It can be done though...My Pettit ECU...which is unfortunately dead at the moment...was "touched" by some guy who messed with the wastegate and precontrol solenoid duty cycles, resulting in somewhat higher boost and a smoother transition. So I know it can be done! But I wasn't the owner of the ECU back then, so I wasn't there when he did it.

I know these guys had a 2nd gen ECU mod too, but they may have been using generic base maps for that too.

Knightsports, RE amemiya, etc....they do not re-map the stock ecu.

What they do is to set up your aftermarket ecu
(F-CON S, F-CON V PRO, POWER FC, EMS, REDOM MINI, FAMC, 4 BEAT) at the shop. Because every car can be different although it both has the same mod. They recomend people to goto the shop and get it programed there. I think thats what you were talking about?

have been told that a piggyback system is better depending on mods
remapped ecu often change the timming and can result in running problems it also depends if its just a drop in chip or if it is being tuned to your car and mods depends on car and what you are doing

I'm really wondering about this alternative. I was thinking about running a blowthrough carb setup because I REALLY don't want to go standalone at this point. I have the stock ECU and harness for a T2 sitting around, and was wondering if there was a place in central cali. that could hack the ECU for my turbo upgrade.

I 'm looking for an ECU that'll work with a full T04 upgrade with about 1 bar of boost and maybe a mild streetport. A standalone seems like overkill because after I do the port job and the turbo swap my mods are pretty much done, at least for the forseeable future. So I don't need to be able to make tuning changes all the time, assuming I find a map that works.

By the way, how much voltage can the stock AFM handle? Would drastic changes in the fuel setup require a switch to a different unit?
