Reading ECU input and output data

I am a G.M. drive ability specialist and wish to know how the data stream of the F.D. is read/viewed. I have a 93 and am installing a new engine etc. I have a snap-on scanner I use on my 95 Riviera can the data stream be accessed using this equipment? What ways are there available to view data.

No.
You're talking about OBD scanners, which none of the FD's came with.

the fd does output serial data, thru the diagnostic connector, but theres no software to translate it into anything meaningful.

besides its an fd, if you put it together right it will run, if you dont put it together right it will run, just maybe idle high...

OBD

Well thanks for that info, I should have known it was not obd-1 and am learning as I go. I see by how complex the engine management system is that it must be put together right or it will not run correctly. I am waiting for my engine to arrive and will be putting together soon. I have never driven a FD or even herd one run in person. I just like the style and engine package. I am getting a mild street port engine and am in the process of setting up all the reliability mods. Does anyone know of a picture of a heat shield which is designed to deflect heat away from the intake manifold? I am trying now to design one and would like to see others ideas. Thanks again!!!
